The explosion of Canada's middle class following World War Two was more real than people imagine.  I know.  I was there.  I am a witness.  My father was a wounded veteran who struggling to overcome not just his physical affliction, but the emotional trauma experienced while in conflict.  My mother was a Scottish war  bride, thousands of kilometres from her ancestral home and family, and struggling to build a new life in a vast country she had never imagined.

This book - The Unravelling - is about what Canada gained and is beginning to lose between 1945 until today.  I watched it all unfold and now I see it decline.   The promise the post-World War Two generation made was real.  It changed lives in ways so fundamental that those who have benefitted from it couldn't see it clearly, because it was simply the texture of the world as they found it.  

The Unravelling is not just about losing that world, but what we might yet do strengthen our citizenship and institutions to protect what so many lost their lives for.  Enjoy the podcast.
