Anger is a common problem if left uncontrolled. We can be angry but do not sin. God’s word in Ephesians 3:26-27 is worth pondering upon, “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.”

Do not let anger prompt you to sinful actions that the devil can have a ground to destroy you.

Anger is a human emotion that is not sinful. We all feel emotion at various times, feelings that come naturally and can be directed positively on people. How, then, does it become sinful? How we act on those emotions becomes sinful. It can be directed negatively toward others.

It can be directed in a rage, rudeness, shouting, and bad-mouthing. Do not allow anger to prompt sinful actions. When the devil gets a foothold, he can set you up to destroy your life.

Do not stay angry. Catch a breather so you do not dwell on it and become bitter. Don’t let your anger consume you long; deal with it on the same day as the provocation happens. 

Calm yourself when given to rage and harsh words. Forgive so that when the devil brings back into your memory the wound to arouse anger and make you bitter, he won't succeed. 

Make calmness a habit by God’s grace so that when provoked to get angry, you will not sin by directing your anger positively at the right time and sin.

May you grow in God's grace to develop inner calmness and self-control. Amen.

Prayer works because God answers according to His will. This is vital in understanding prayer. God’s word in 1 John 5:14-15 is worth meditating on: “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.”

Know God's will to pray according to it and receive what we ask of Him.

God answers prayer according to His will. This is our confidence when we pray, as John stated. When we pray according to God's will, we have an assurance that God hears our prayers. So we have what we prayed for.

Confidence in prayer is asking in alignment with God's will. God's will is in His written word. We can know who God is, His nature, His character, thoughts, power, and ways in the Bible. God has poured out His mind and heart in the Scripture so we may know Him, for His will is an expression of who He is, His plan, and His purpose.

Forgiving others as an example is God’s will. You don't have to ask God if you should forgive the person that offended you. It is God's will to forgive as Christ has forgiven us. So, in prayer, forgive those who hurt you, and God will restore your joy and peace. 

But what will you do when you know your prayer is according to His will but has not yet been answered? 

Scripture said, "We know that he hears us." God heard you. Just be patient. His timing is perfect, and God is always on time. Remember: "If the request is wrong, God says, 'No.' If the timing is wrong, God says, 'Slow.'  If you are wrong, God says, 'Grow.'  But if the request is right, the timing is right, and you are right, God says, 'Go'!"  

May you increase your knowledge of God's will so you can pray according to them and receive many answered prayers. Amen.

A lack of discipline makes a defeated life. It makes an easy prey of the devil. How Jesus faces Satan, His formidable opponent, is worth pondering upon. In Matthew 4:4, Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Don't live by bread alone; ensure you have a good diet of God's word every day.

Living by bread alone implies a lack of true spirituality. We can be physically well but easily grumble and whine. We can be materially full but still feel empty, unsatisfied, and greedy. It is true that no amount of material things will make a truly happy and disciplined child. The younger son of the man in a parable taught by Jesus in Luke 15 got his inheritance early. He squandered them all in reckless living. His life becomes miserable and wasted. 

Living for earthly reason only will surely fail us. Six weeks before he died, a reporter asked Elvis Presley, "Elvis, when you first started playing music, you said you wanted to be rich, famous, and happy. Are you happy?" 

"I'm lonely as hell," he replied. 

Material wealth and fame had let Elvis down and still let people down until today. We can live by our physical desires alone  but must not expect to find true happiness, love, joy, peace, self-control, true meaning and purpose, and victory against the evil one. 

Jesus overcame the devil's attack and trap on his physical appetite by quoting the word of God, which He lives on with total dependence on the Father. The Lord did not live by bread alone but on every word of the Father. Like Jesus, do not live by bread alone, but make sure you have a good diet of God’s word every day.

What areas of your physical desire are you most vulnerable? What word of God helps you grow stronger and help overcome temptations in that weakness?

May you have a good diet of God's word daily for a more vital life of faith. Amen.

Trouble comes from various reasons. Some are caused by sin, careless actions, bad decisions, force of nature, or a time of pruning from God for growth and maturity of faith.

One good way to reflect upon this is on the spiritual law of agriculture. The counsel of Scripture in Galatians 6:7 is worth meditating on: Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”

We must watch what we sow, for we will reap blessings and judgment. 

The spiritual law of agriculture is another expression of God’s just dealings. Not being seen or being caught does not mean freedom from divine justice. Sellers might think they can take advantage of customers by overpricing a product. Students might think they outwitted their teacher by cheating in an examination. One might falsify documents and get what he wants. A scammer might take a lot of money from deceiving people and walk free. But not with God. What is kept under wraps will be brought to light by what one reaps.

God is just. A man reaps what he sows. No one escapes the justice of God. 

What trouble keeps happening in your life? Is there a sin that God wants you to confess and turn away so it can be forgiven and the reaping of bad consequence will stop? Are you under God’s pruning for a more fruitful life of faith? 

As long as we have breath, nothing is too late in life. We can change our unrighteous ways with God’s help for a life of peace and pure blessings.

May we watch what we sow and plant good thoughts, words, and actions to reap blessings.
