David and Anna have a son Aiden, who was supposed to graduate from high school, but unfortunately he's gotten in a lot of trouble and won't actually be graduating this month. Anna thinks that because he'll get through the rest of school during the summer, he should still have a graduation party. If they wait to have the party, all of his friends will be gone for college, so it's now or never. David doesn't think it makes sense to have a party when he isn't graduating.
