Salieri's Requiem is a forgotten 🎼 work that Salieri composed in 1804 for his own funeral, more than twenty years before his death in 1825. Written at the height of his creativity, it is his greatest work of liturgical music 🎶 a dramatic and personal interpretation of the liturgy of death. Not many composers write their own funeral music. Beethoven and Schubert were students of Salieri and attended his funeral, where the Requiem was premiered. This piece 🎼 is the largest of the "Indian" works Holst composed between 1895 and 1914. It is based on the Meghadūta (Sanskrit: मेघदूत literally Messenger of the Clouds) 🎶 is a lyric poem written by Kālidāsa (c. 4th-5th centuries AD), considered one of the greatest Sanskrit poets. It describes how a yakṣa (or nature spirit), who had been banished by his master to a remote region for a year, asked a cloud to carry a message of love 💖 to his wife. The poem became well known in Sanskrit literature and inspired other poets to write similar poems (known as "messenger-poems" or Sandesha Kavya) on similar themes. Korada Ramachandra Sastri wrote Ghanavrttam, a continuation of Meghaduta. ==================== 🎵 Classical music brings us into communion with the ineffable that is not of time and is ETERNAL! The Krönungsmesse (German for Coronation Mass) 🎼 (Mass No. 15 in C major, K. 317; sometimes Mass No. 16), composed in 1779 🎶, is one of the most popular of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's 17 extant settings of the Ordinary of the Mass. It can be classified as either a Missa brevis (short Mass) or a Missa solemnis (fuller Mass) because although it includes all the sections of the Ordinary, it is relatively short. ==================== 🎵 Classical music brings us into communion with the ineffable that is not of time and is ETERNAL! A Symphony to Dante's Divine Comedy, S.109, or simply the "Dante Symphony", 🎼 is a choral symphony composed by Franz Liszt. Written in the high romantic style, it is based on Dante Alighieri's journey through Hell and Purgatory, as depicted in The Divine Comedy. It was premiered in Dresden in November 1857, with Liszt conducting himself, and was unofficially dedicated to the composer's friend and future son-in-law Richard Wagner. The entire symphony takes approximately 50 minutes to perform. It premiered on 7 November 1857. Some critics have argued that the Dante Symphony is not so much a symphony in the classical sense as it is two descriptive symphonic 🎶 poems. Regardless, Dante consists of two movements, both in a loosely structured ternary form with little use of thematic transformation. ==================== 🎵 Classical music brings us into communion with the ineffable that is not of time and is ETERNAL! The Piano Concerto No. 1 in B♭ minor, Op. 23, was composed 🎼 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky between November 1874 and February 1875. It was revised in 1879 and in 1888. It was first performed on October 25, 1875, in Boston by Hans von Bülow after Tchaikovsky's desired pianist, Nikolai Rubinstein, criticised the piece. Rubinstein later withdrew his criticism and became a fervent champion of the work. It is one of the most popular of Tchaikovsky's compositions 🎶 and among the best known of all piano concerti. From 2021 to 2022, it served as the sporting anthem of the Russian Olympic Committee as a substitute of the country's actual national anthem as a result of the doping scandal that prohibits the use of its national symbols. ==================== 🎵 Classical music brings us into communion with the ineffable that is not of time and is ETERNAL!
