On Nov. 8 Vice President George H. W. Bush was elected President of the United States, defeating Democrat Michael Dukakis. In the landslide victory, President Bush was the first sitting Vice President to be elected President since 1836.
In Music…
The Beach Boys rise to the top would be short lived as their one week on the top of the Hot 100 comes to an end. Replacing the aging rockers is The Escape Club with Wild, Wild West. From the album of the same name I’d actually like to go back to Kokomo.

In Movies…
Wooo boy am I excited to talk about this one. The box office has stagnated in 1988 through October and into November but John Carpenter is here to save us. Starring the one and only Roddy Piper with the amazing Keith David is the sci-fi horror classic They Live. The art, the tone and one of the best fight scenes ever, this cult film is one of my all-time favorites from the decade and the genre. We miss you Roddy.

Yes. Yes we left you on the season 4 cliffhanger and then took the summer off even after Dominic complained that leaving people on a cliffhanger was evil. But we’re back! Its been four weeks since season 4 of Miami Vice ended and we are so excited to get to the next episode of the Sonny Burnett amnesia story arc. The only downside is it brings us one step closer to the end of the amnesia story.
Melissa and John think evil Sonny should add a moustache and an eye-patch to his glorious pony tail. Dominic has some questions about some innuendos thrown around about Sonny, Celeste and Miguel.

Hi pals, coming up on this week’s episode of Go With The Heat we’re kicking off season 5 of Miami Vice and part 3 of the Sonny Burnett arc in the episode Hostile Takeover. On This Week In Vice we’re taking a look back to when this episode of Miami Vice aired, from Oct. 30 to Nov. 5, 1988, when Miami Vice was King.
In news…
On Nov. 4 midway through the Geraldo talk show while taping the episode titled “Teen Hatemongers” a scuffle broke out. The fight included people on the show and attendees in the crowd and ended with Rivera being punched in the face and his nose broken. I guess he got what he wanted.

On Nov. 2 the first widely known computer worm started working its way through the internet. Known as the Morris Worm it infected thousands of computers including government systems. Named after its creator Robert Morris it was the felony conviction under the 1986 Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.

In Music…
After a wild summer of music its time to slow things down a bit. Its good fro everyone to take a nice vacation to a small island, cause that’s where we want to go. Kokomo from The Beach Boys reaches the top of the Hot 100 for just one week. From their album Still Cruisin’ and the Cocktail soundtrack, this song was the their first number one since 1966.

In Movies…
The busy summer movie schedule is winding down and Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers will hold the box office for one more weekend. Also in theaters is Taylor Hackford classic Everybody’s All-American. Starring Jessica Lange, Dennis Quaid and John Goodman the film follows the life a former college football star. Though not received well by critics the movie is still one I enjoy.

So we’ve had a couple of not-so-great episodes of Miami Vice in a row now, but that trend ends with this one. This is an amazing episode of Vice and we all thoroughly love it. Its not the most Miami Vice episode, but it is politically and topically important both in the late 80’s and today. Needless to say, we’re huge fans of this one and spend most of our time gushing.
At least we get a good one right before the UFO’s come to take us away.
John goes deep in the music and has some words of advice for Book of Love. Melissa is happy to see Castillo happy, even if its only for a few minutes. Dominic loves Crockett’s boating style.
Its an episode of Miami Vice that harkens back to Season 1 and we love it.

Hi pals, coming up on this week’s episode of Go With The Heat its the last of the Summer reruns of our Miami Vice season 4 review. On This Week In Vice, we’re looking at the summer between seasons 4 and 5. This week we’re taking a look back to Sept. 25 to Oct. 29, 1988, when Miami Vice was King.
In news…
I’m setting all other news aside and really looking at a sports moment that shaped my life. On Oct. 15 the 1988 World Series at Dodger Stadium. The series was between the LA Dodgers and my hometown heros, the team I grew up just down the street from, the Oakland Athletics. Both teams were powerhouses and had the two greatest closers in the history of baseball in Dennis Eckersley and Orel Hershiser. In game one a crushing blow to the A’s would come off the bat of Kirk Gibson who would hit a walk-off two run homerun to win the game. The A’s would never recover and the Dodgers would win the series 4 to… You know what, I can’t talk about it anymore.

In TV news…
On Oct. 18 the classic show Roseanne debuts on ABC. No political statement or pot-shotting here. Just a reminder that the original Roseanne show in the 80’s was some of the best TV ever made. Put all the personalities aside, the original show is as good as TV was and ever shall be.

In Music…
Okay, there’s a lot to unpack this time. There are 4 number one songs from a very, VERY wide gamut of artists. First up is the unique and could-only-be-a-hit-in-the-80’s Don’t Worry, Be Happy by Bobby McFerrin. Its not a surprise this song was created and its not a surprise its used frequently in popular culture. It is a huge surprise this song reached number one on the Hot 100 for two weeks!

Skipping one I’m going to come back to, we go to Red Red Wine by UB40. This is actually a cover song, but might be the greatest cover song ever. Okay, second behind Jimi Hendrix. Its a song everyone knows but probably don’t know who sings it. Up next is A Groovy Kind of Love by Phil Collins. This is also a cover song, appearing on the soundtrack for the film Buster. The song was extremely popular and held the top spot for two weeks.

Now to the song I’m most excited to talk about. From the mega album Hysteria is Love Bites by Def Leppard. This is easily my favorite song from Def Leppard and is the only song from the band to reach number one. Even though it only held the top spot for one week its the perfect hair band “feels” song
