Hi pals, coming up on this week’s episode of Go With The Heat we’re replaying all our favorite moments from this season of Miami Vice in our season 4 clip show. On This Week In Vice, we’re looking at the summer between seasons 4 and 5. This week we’re taking a look back to June 12 to July 16, 1988, when Miami Vice was King.
In news…
On July 3 Iran Air Flight 655 was shot down by the US Navy after the jet did not respond to attempted contact from the US vessel. The aircraft was destroyed adn killed all 290 people on board including 65 children. In 1996, nearly a decade after the tragedy, the US agreed to pay $131 million in a settlement with the families and the International Court of Justice.

In a sports round-up Mike Tyson KO’s Michael Spinks in 91 seconds, Cal Ripken Jr. plays in his 1,000 consecutive game with the Orioles, the Yankees fire Billy Martin, and the newly minted Miami Heat and Charlotte Hornets enter the expansion draft.

In Music…
In this timeframe there are 4 songs that would reach the top of the Hot 100. Three came from artists who have been recently seen at the top, including Together Forever by Rick Astley, Foolish Beat by Debbie Gibson and Dirty Diana from Michael Jackson. Each of these songs would be on top for just one week. Rounding out this section of the summer is The Flame from the amazing band Cheap Trick.

From the album Lap of Luxury, The Flame was the pinnacle song for the bands comeback. The album would have four singles that would enter the Hot 100 and this song would be an international hit. Although not written by the band, it was still performed live and is one of the bands most recognizable songs.

In Movies…
This week in movies is really, REALLY tough as three fantastic movies reach number one at the box office. First a personal favorite. I can understand if you don’t particularly care for it, but its still good to me is Red Heat. Starring James Belushi and Arnold Schwarzenegger its a classic mismatched buddy cop story in which a freestyle NY cop is partnered with an intense Russian.

Deliver Us From Evil. The evilest villain in the history of Vice is Frank Hackman. This episode is rounded out well, lots of foreshadowing to what Crockett will turn into and deeper into how he see’s himself as a cop. What else is there to say about this episode other than… its the biggest controversy in GWTH too. Planted or hidden?
Honor Among Thieves. Its the first real episode that is a straight up modern-style story (other than Contempt of Court). A drug dealer is also a serial killer who’s also insane and talks to dolls. This could be an episode of Criminal Minds or SVU. The string it along nicely and the twist of the killer being a dealer who’s also their informant… which is nice.
Vote of Confidence. They had to do real police work in this one & they’re never able to really get a conviction. There’s a lot of parallels between this episode and modern politics. Its another time we see just how far IAD is willing to go to bring down Sonny. They really don’t like him. They suggest in this episode that he’s political

In news…
On May 18 a drunk driver hit a former school bus carrying a church youth group on Interstate 71 outside Carrollton, Kentucky. The drunk driver was traveling the wrong way on the highway and hit the bus head on, killing 27 and injuring 34. IN the aftermath bus safety and emergency exits were improved for all new buses and several memebers of the families of the victims became active in Mothers Against Drunk Driving including Karolyn Nunnallee who would become the National President.

In Music…
Believe it or not over this 5 week stretch there are only two songs the reign supreme on the top of the Hot 100. It was a tough decision but I’m going to skip talking about One More Try by the King of the 80’s George Michael.One More Try was the 5th. single from the album Faith and one of the countless classics from Michael. Instead, I want to talk about the breakthrough hit Anything For You from Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine. From the album Let It Loose/Anything for You the song was an international hit and more evidence that thanks to Miami Vice, anything with Miami in it will become an instant hit.

In Movies…
In the exact opposite from music, there are 4 movies at number one during this time including a sequel. Colors holds the spot for one more week and then gives way to Friday the 13th. Part VII: The New Blood which I’m not going to talk about. I’m also not going to discuss Crocodile Dundee II which ends up winning the box office for 3 weeks.

No. Instead I’d rather talk about one of my favorite movies of all time. Directed by Ron Howard and starring Val Kilmer, Warwick Davis and Joanne Whalley is Willow. The fantasy story was written by George Lucas and is something that modern films have

Here we are. This is it. Its finally happening. Since episode one we’ve all been focused on getting to a single point in the story arc that is Miami Vice. We all knew Sonny getting amnesia would be the greatest thing to happen in our TV watching lives and its all happening before us.
And its glorious.
Don’t let season 4 confuse you. Even though we had episodes about cutting off willies and bull semen this episode is amazing. Its been well worth the wait and we all couldn’t be happier.

In news…
On May 4 an [explosion rocked](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PEPCON_disaster) the PEPCON ammonium perchlorate plant in Henderson, Nevada killing 2 and injuring 372. Initially concern of highly toxic chemicals were airborne and cities instituted disaster plans. But quickly firefighters and first responders found the chemicals to be an irritant and not toxic. The damage was extensive with explosion impacted the entire Las Vegas Valley with damage seen in a 10-mile radius around the facility.

In Music…
Whitney Houston’s classic Where Do Broken Hearts Go would finally relenquish the top spot on the Hot 100 after two weeks reigning supreme. Replacing Houston is Wishing Well from Terence Trent D’Arby. From the album Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent D’Arby (seriously? Never thought somone would give Billy Ocean a run at long music names.) the song is the first soul song to reach the top of the Hot 100 in quite a long time. It would only hold the top spot for one week one thing 1988 brought to music is a very diverse cast of songs and muscians to the mainstream.

In Movies…
Beetlejuice’s reign on the box office finally comes to an end in early May after spending a month at number one. Taking over the top spot is the action-crime film Colors. Starring Sean Penn, Robert Duvall and Maria Conchita Alonso the film centers on an experienced cop with a rookie partner working in the gang ridden neighborhoods of South-Central and East L.A.. Colors has a deep cast, a great soundtrack (including a classic from Ice-T) and an all-star director in Dennis Hopper. Although its not without its critics, Colors is a must-watch from the 80’s.
