Jeremy Ambrose has completed a Master of Arts in Theological Studies at the University of Notre Dame Australia and is the Pastoral Associate for Staff at Australian Catholic University's Melbourne Campus. He is passionate about the Arts, especially movies, books and Elvis Presley music. He curates monthly film screenings for the Melbourne Catholic Cinephiles community.

The nineteenth face-to-face event (held at the Notting Hill Hotel on Monday November 13, 2023) featured Fr Francis Denton, Parish Priest of St Patrick’s Parish Lilydale and St Brigid’s Parish Healesville. Fr Denton spoke on "Beauty, Art, and the Cult of Ugliness".

Should Christians really care about beauty or art? Aren't there more pressing moral issues for our culture to contend with than the plague of ugliness we see around us? Fr Francis Denton will put forward the case for the absolute necessity of beauty in the work of restoring an authentically Christian culture. He will explore the oftentimes controversial role of art in the history of the Church and examine the causal link between the decline in the Catholic arts and the collapse of Christian culture in the west. Fr Francis Denton is currently serving as the parish priest of St Patrick's Lilydale. He has a major in Art History from the University of Melbourne and is an amateur artist and iconographer.

The eighteenth face-to-face event (held at the Notting Hill Hotel on Monday October 9, 2023) featured Professor John Haldane of Australian Catholic University. Professor Haldane spoke on "How to Fix Catholic Education".

Catholic education has been in a crisis for some years. Most families who send their children to Catholic schools do not attend Mass weekly and many students, upon graduation, have little idea of what the Church teaches. The problems are well-known but solutions are in short supply.

Professor John Haldane is a 'rock-star philosopher' and one of the leading thinkers in the world. A former papal adviser and current chair of the Royal Institute of Philosophy, he splits his time between Baylor University in the USA, Australian Catholic University in Melbourne, Notre Dame University in Sydney and the University of St Andrews in Scotland.

The seventeenth face-to-face event (held at the Hoppers Club on Tuesday October 3, 2023) featured Archbishop Julian Porteous, Archbishop of Hobart. Archbishop Porteous spoke on the topic of his new book, "Becoming Missionary Disciples".

Archbishop Julian Porteous is one of the most courageous bishops in Australia today. He is greatly loved by Catholics and many other Australians for his willingness to stand up for the truth about the human person and marriage. He is also well known for his work to promote evangelisation in the Church. In this talk he will inspire Catholics to be missionary disciples using their "head, heart and hands" to evangelise.

The sixteenth face-to-face event (held at the Notting Hill Hotel on Monday September 11, 2023) featured Olivia Chamoun Canavan, professional jazz singer. Olivia, interviewed by her father-in-law John Canavan, spoke on how her faith has influenced her music career.

Come and listen to up-and-coming jazz singer Olivia Chamoun Canavan who blends her love of the Catholic faith with her musical career. She will explore how music can be a powerful way for people to connect with God and a source of healing. Olivia will also perform some songs for the audience.

The fifteenth face-to-face event (held at the Notting Hill Hotel on Monday August 14, 2023) featured Fr Michael Shadbolt PE, Priest in Residence at St Gerard's Parish, Dandenong North. Fr Shadbolt (interviewed by Knights of the Southern Cross Victoria State Secretary Andrew Vaccaro) spoke on the topic of his new book 'Exorcism: Reflections of an Australian Catholic Exorcist'.

It seems clear that from the earliest days of his public life, Jesus of Nazareth exercised a ministry we now call exorcism, with many references throughout the Gospels that record Jesus confronting and expelling evil spirits within people he encountered.

Most Catholics have little understanding of this ministry even though it has been used (and occasionally abused) within the Church throughout its existence when 'the Church asks publicly and authoritatively in the name of Jesus Christ that a person be protected against the power of the Evil One and withdrawn from his dominion' (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1673).

Fr Michael Shadbolt was the officially appointed exorcist for the Archdiocese of Melbourne for ten years. He was the much-loved parish priest of Holy Family Doveton for many years and is the recent author of a book 'Exorcism: Reflections of an Australian Catholic Exorcist'. He is currently the Priest in Residence at St Gerard's Parish Dandenong North.

In this presentation Deacon Harold shows how we truly encounter the love of Christ in the Catholic faith. You will see how this relationship with the living God allows us to love as God loves and frees us to become the person that God created us to be. This talk will be especially helpful for people experiencing struggles with their faith or those who need encouragement.

Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers, known around the world as the Dynamic Deacon, is a sought-after speaker in the Church. He is a powerful and passionate evangelist and preacher, whose no-nonsense approach to living and proclaiming the Catholic faith will challenge and inspire those who hear him. The thirteenth face-to-face event (held at the Notting Hill Hotel on Monday June 19, 2023) featured Charbel Raish (Parousia Media). Charbel spoke on the topic 'How Islam Led Me Back to Christ'.

Charbel Raish was born into a Catholic home. But, in the last 6 years of school, he was influenced and challenged in his faith by Islamic friends. In his final year, he struggled to make a choice. He visited a mosque to give his life to Allah and Muhamed. But God wasn't done with him yet. An encounter that radically transformed a young man to be filled with zeal and passion for the truth.

This experience led him into the seminary, study, marriage, being a father to seven children, and founding Parousia Media, a lay apostolate. Be moved and inspired by how God worked in his life, and how you can access God's grace - if you only turn to Him!

The twelfth face-to-face event (held at the Notting Hill Hotel on Monday May 8, 2023) featured Kevin Bailey AM (Divine Renovation Australia & Parousia Media). Kevin spoke on the topic 'Divine Renovation: Renewing The Parish'.

Many Catholic parishes are dying: ageing demographics, sacramental programs that don't engage, a lack of evangelisation...we need renewal if we are to win people back to Christ. One parish in Canada has done it and is sharing their success with the world.

Kevin Bailey will tell us about the Divine Renovation parish renewal program, which is a comprehensive and practical approach to revitalizing Catholic parishes. The program aims to transform parishes into vibrant and evangelizing communities, by emphasizing the importance of leadership, Christian discipleship, and a clear mission. The talk will cover the key principles and strategies of the program, as well as success stories from parishes that have implemented it. Attendees will gain a better understanding of how the Divine Renovation program can help their own parishes grow and thrive in today's challenging social and religious landscape.

The eleventh face-to-face event (held in the Majellan Room at St Gerard's Catholic Parish Dandenong North on Monday April 17, 2023) featured Bishop Emeritus Peter Elliott (Former Auxiliary Bishop, Southern Region, Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne). Bishop Elliott gave a magnificent tribute to the late His Eminence George Cardinal Pell AC.

Join us for an inspiring and enlightening talk about the life and accomplishments of the great George Cardinal Pell, arguably the most significant leader in the history of the Australian Church. A towering figure, Cardinal Pell spearheaded the creation and reform of countless Catholic institutions in Australia and the world beyond. From Campion College, ACU, Notre Dame, The John Paul II Institute, Catholic Religious Education, Sydney World Youth Day, Catholic Youth Ministry, University Chaplaincies, The Melbourne Response, Seminary reform; Cardinal Pell left a lasting legacy on virtually every aspect of the Australian Church. Overseas he played a key role reforming the English liturgy, the Vatican's finances and in numerous Church debates.

Our speaker, Bishop Peter Elliott, studied together with Cardinal Pell at Oxford University where they began a friendship that would last over 50 years. An authority on the liturgy, sacramentality of marriage and religious education he is an Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus for the Melbourne Archdiocese. Bishop Elliott worked alongside Cardinal Pell on numerous projects and is uniquely placed to explain 'The Pell Legacy'.
