The famous “Sunmer of Love” took place in 1967. This was an era in American history when there was a significant amount of cultural upheaval with the hippie movement being in full swing, the Vietnam war raging, and the battle for civil rights still being waged on America streets. The next year, 1968, saw even more madness with the tragic assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy, and the withdrawal of the sitting president Lyndon Johnson from the presidential election. In 2024, we are facing “The Summer of Push Comes to Shove.” In this year, we have seen the president Joe Biden be completely exposed for his failing health at the presidential debate; an assassination attempt against former president, Donald Trump; Biden’s withdrawal from the race and the elevation of vice president Kamala Harris to the place of presumptive nominee with the Democratic Party; and major sociocultural craziness being displayed at the Paris Olympics. The “God and Government” team discusses these issues from a biblical perspective, referring to several passages of Scripture, including sections of 1 Timothy 2, 1 Peter 2, Romans 1, and Deuteronomy 22.
