Our natural appetites are driven on by sinful desire. Paul says these are aroused by the law. Moral and ethical education alone often do very little good toward reforming characterit just makes a person a more socially acceptable sinner.

There's no power in the law to make someone holy; there's only power to accuse and isolate. If you try to use the law to make you holy, it's like using a scalpel to sew up a wound!
