Every time you’re tempted...do you sin?
That to me is a pretty revealing question. We’re all susceptible to temptation, even Jesus Christ was tempted in every way and yet He didn’t sin (Hebrews 4:15). The temptations of Jesus were recorded in Matthew 4 so we know that temptation itself is not a sin. We’re all tempted in many different ways...but as Christians we don’t have to sin, do we?
James 1 reads, "Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death."
Jesus tells us in Mark 14:38: "Watch and pray so that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
I believe the biggest problem for us in this area of temptation is being spiritually unprepared or thinking that you can come up with your own purity plan.
John MacArthur says, "It’s never the circumstances that cause us to sin, its our character." Therefore, our character must change. The only person who can change your character is the Lord Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Now we must remember that your flesh is way too weak to do this alone. This is where your Brothers and Sisters in Christ come into play....all with a plan.
