I did a complete run of my game Goblin Tower - a tech demo turned challenging first-person platformer - to verify that the game could actually be completed, and that everything works as expected.

So, as of the posting of this video, the world record is 41 minutes, 2.1 seconds!

This is the gameplay trailer for my game AFK Shift (which you can wishlist on Steam!). The game is a take on the Surveillance Horror genre exemplified by I'm On Observation Duty, where you are watching for anomalies on an unnamed livestreaming service.

I tried to script and animate the entire thing inside Godot, but found that accurately syncing the music track was an impossible task using only in-engine tools. So this trailer is actually three separate scripted (rather than animated) Godot scenes, combined and synced with the music using Kdenlive.

The music is Hunter Class Lifeform (AFK edit) by Vitalezzz and recut by myself.

I added parkour abilities to my 3D platformer prototype, and some time later discovered that the other characters were being treated as if they were walls by the parkour logic.

Aside from the viewer/player's actions, all this is staged entirely by animation tracks faking input controls for the bots. So the animations they show and physics they obey would be the same as for a player.

Following on from my Pikuniku feet prototype, I've recently picked up the procedural feet again, and taken them in a bit of a more sensible direction!

The way this works is that the feet are disconnected from the avatar, and normally stay static in the environment. But when it comes time to take a step, a foot will initiate a stepping animation (varying by the type of ambulation - walk, run, etc.), and over the duration of the step animation will lerp to the correct position and orientation below the body. As soon as the animation is finished (and therefore also the lerp), the foot returns to being static in the environment until the next step.

I'm pretty happy with how it's turned out!

It's been a while since I uploaded here, as alas my recent projects haven't been so conducive to video form. I post screenshots and whatnot more often on my Mastodon account, but rest assured I've not forgotten about ol' PeerTube!

What's this, another new game prototype? Who could have imagined!

This is me experimenting with control schemes for an arcade space game that uses Newtonian movement physics.

The result is something that doesn't really feel suitable for a fast action shooter, but sits somewhere between ΔV and SPAZ.

I absolutely adored the legs in Pikuniku, so when it came time to add feet to a third-person game prototype, I decided to implement a similar system for the foot placement.

The feet are disconnected from the body, so they don't directly inherit the character's position. Instead, they independently use the character's position and velocity to try and anticipate where in space they should be landing. This gives them a kind of inertia relative to the character's motion.

Unfortunately, the silliness of the gait doesn't really fit with any of the game ideas I have right now, so I need to rethink one thing or another!

Motivation on my holodeck project has been wearing thin, so I took a detour to experiment with pinball physics. The bumpers and slingshots use only physical motion to propel the ball away - no magical impulses applied via script!

Unfortunately, I found Godot's built-in physics to not be suitable right now, even with continuous detection. A launched ball would immediately get stuck partially inside the playfield boundary collider!

Fortunately, swapping out to use the Jolt physics engine was painless thanks to godot-jolt (available in the Asset Library), and the integration with Godot has been absolutely seamless so far.

I've been making some progress on my multiplayer holodeck. There's still no real game in there yet, but you can get out and about on the farm now!
