Likewise, we are blessed but still make bad decisions sometimes. God’s grace means even though we fail, God still fulfills his promises. We can face our brokenness and still see God working out his purposes.

God’s desire is not that we “pay our dues” but that our hearts are transformed by his love and generosity displayed in Jesus. Because the Lord of creation is a humble and generous God, we are called to live humble and generous lives that mirror his love. This can’t happen by adding duties to our to-do lists but by our hearts being transformed by the beauty of the cross.

Humans were originally created in God’s image, but that was marred when sin entered the world. What we needed was a Savior, a human being who perfectly reflected the image of God the Father for us. We needed Jesus. Our idol worshipping brings us nothing but brokenness, shame, and guilt and robs us of our call to be image bearers of God. Jesus came to restore us to our original calling, so that we can reflect God’s love, mercy, justice, and righteousness to the world through how we live our lives.
