Our culture may despise work, but the Bible introduces God as a Creator who works, rests, and blesses. Work is not a curse—it is the fifth attribute of God’s image in humanity. In Episode 14 of God’s Image in Man, Duane Sheriff teaches God’s pattern of six days of work and one day of rest.
Scripture makes no distinction between “secular” and “spiritual” labor; all legitimate work is holy when done unto the Lord. Regardless of our occupation, our labor reflects God’s image when performed with excellence and faith. When we refuse to work or fail to rest, we distort God’s image within us. The value of work restores dignity, purpose, and alignment with God’s rhythm of creation, and it is important to pass these principles on to the next generation.
