In the third episode of "Who Am I?", Duane Sheriff teaches that our true identity is found through our relationship with Jesus. To illustrate this, he introduces the concept of three families that influence who we are.
The first family is our immediate family, which consists of our parents and grandparents. They give us certain physical traits, like the color of our skin or our hair. These traits can influence how we see ourselves but don't define our true selves. In Christ, we can overcome any negative influence from our immediate family.
The second family is the family of man, which includes every human born into this world. We are all part of this family because of Adam, the first man who brought sin into the world. This connection can bring feelings of guilt or judgment, but through Jesus, we can break free from this old identity.
The third family is the family of God. When we believe in Jesus and are "born again," we join this new family. Jesus is like the father of this new creation, bringing life, righteousness, and goodness. We are no longer defined by our old life but by our new identity in Christ.
