In this chapter we learn of the inspiration of God to have his people know the new covenant or agreement that he provided for humanity without humanity‘s input that was demonstrating his mercy and love provided a more excellent way. That is the baptism of the Holy Ghost; that is the indwelling of the Christ of God. To as many as believe on the name Jesus, to them God gives power to becomes sons of God.

In this we learn a great lesson in forgiving. Paul here is acknowledging the fact that Onesimus had done some wrong to Philemon. Onesimus apparently received Paul’s counseling by the gospel of Jesus Christ and received the Holy Ghost and remained with Paul and became one of his assistance. It seems obvious to me that Onesimus confessed to Paul why he had run away from Philemon.

We discover wisdom and admonition from the apostle reminding the brethren of the purpose of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Once we learn the truth we are to walk in the truth and not allow anyone into our lives that could turn us away from the plan of salvation provided by God Himself. We can also garner from these verses sound advice as to the company that we should keep and how we slice our lives.

Those of us that have been blessed enough to have received regeneration, that is having the in dwelling of the Christ of God; the baptism of the Holy Ghost have a charge from God to let go of the life of contrariness to scripture. We must love and do good to all men; especially to them of the household of faith.

The apostle cautions the Philippians against judaizing false teachers, and renounces his own former privileges. Using the wisdom demonstrated by Paul we today should be cautious when others try to get us to turn away from the truth God has allowed us to understand when they won’t repent and let God save them.

In this passage of scripture we should recognize the fact that those that are blessed to be a part of the church of Jesus Christ is because of God’s agape’ love for humanity. No one can buy salvation; deceive God and sneak in, or do enough to be chosen one over another. Salvation is by the grace and mercy of God.

Here again we see the mind and love of God as he inspires the recording of his instructions for humanity as to how we demonstrate his personality in our everyday vocations. What we do is what defines us. We cannot please God yielding to the will of the flesh. It is important and imperative that we learn the desire of God by his word for believers and then embrace them and walk in them.

Here we learn another lesson in the importance of forgiveness. Paul urged the church to forgive the repentant brother and restore him. If the church will not forgive, Satan will get the advantage, and the church will not be reflective of the full purpose that it God intended.

Here we learn of apostle Paul defending and proving his Apostolic authority, and asserts his right to continue the work God charged him and was demonstrating that he was with him. Being led by the spirit of God in performance of the tasks he was commissioned.

Paul here is advising the Jews, the original chosen people of God that because they constantly rejected Him he for a while rejected them and began granting to gentiles the mercies that only the Jews had received. But the gentiles are warned not to be as were the Jews in their boasting and bragging because of being chosen by God. Salvation comes by the grace of God and as many as will walk in obedience and compliance to the gospel of Jesus Christ both Jew and Gentile shall be saved.
