36 And when he had said these things, he knelt down and prayed with them all. 37 And there was much weeping on the part of all; they embraced Paul and kissed him, 38 being sorrowful most of all because of the word he had spoken, that they would not see his face again. And they accompanied him to the ship.
GOSPEL RELATIONSHIP MATTERS
Relationships could bring pleasant and painful moments. Paul had engaged in mission trips, wherein he met and develop meaningful relationships. Yes, he had his worst critics. But, he had also his loyal friends who helped him. Their friendship centered on the gospel. But, friends may fail at times. When he was imprisoned in Rome, he wrote to Timothy. He said, “ At my first defense no one came to stand by me, but all deserted me. May it not be charged against them! But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion's mouth.[2 Tim 4:16-17]
Paul’s words were so heavy loaded. The apostasy of the church was inevitable to happen. Paul was expected to suffer when he would arrive in Jerusalem. Most importantly, they had endeared greatly with each other and to part ways without seeing each other again was a difficult reality. These were enough reasons for them to weep.

Our gospel relationships matter. But, we should be realistic. Time and opportunities are ordained by God. There is a time to let go. As Solomon beautifully coined in words.
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
2 a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
3 a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.
9 What gain has the worker from his toil? 10 I have seen the business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.”[Ecc 3:1-12]
Let’s build relationships as if it will last forever. But, let us be sensitive to God’s sovereignty and leadership to let it go if it is for the advancement of the gospel.
