25 “Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. 26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. 27 And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man. 28 Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.
POWER OVER DEATH UNTO LIFE
Due to Adam’s fall, everyone of us is dead before God. Paul said, “Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.”[Rom 5:12] Unless God won’t take the initiative, man by himself is hopeless before God. We are doomed as captives to the enemy are as Paul described, “And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.”[Eph 2:1-3]
But, Jesus came in order to ignite hope. The time has come that ‘the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.’ Jesus is the life [John 1:4; John 14:6] He and the Father are both the giver and judge of everyone’s life.[John 3:16]
It should be noted that the title ‘Son of Man’ carries great weight in the Jewish worldview. Daniel 7:13–14 presents a vision of a Promised One, in the form of a man, but with all the power and authority of God. This figure is referred to as "one like a son of man," and this phrase was commonly used as a reference to the Messiah. When used in this kind of context, the phrase "Son of Man" is not just a claim to power, but to prophecy and divinity.
Sadly, many Jews won’t accept His message. They accuse Him of blasphemy, for maintaining that He is neither the Messiah, nor the Son of God.
Man, having been condemned in sin already[John 3:36] is spiraling down to the abyss of eternal judgment in hell. But, God in His love had provided a detour. Jesus is the way out. Didn’t He promise that He is only way, truth and life to the Father?[John 14:6] Nobody could escape, enroute back to God apart from Jesus. Man has arrived to the fork of the road whereby he has given the opportunity to choose either Jesus or remain in his state of death.
Someday, everyone, for all dead will be resurrected, will meet Him at the final judgment day.[see Rev 20:11–15] Thus He said, “Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.”
