The Chouteau Hills church of Christ in Chouteau Oklahoma, is a very faithful, loving, and hard working family of God's people. Each fall for the past several years they have hosted a marriage retreat, which, over the past two years, my wife and I have been blessed and privileged to be a part of. These 7 lessons are those preached at this year's retreat. However, they entirely fail to represent the full body of work which these saints put into this effort. In other words, you'd have too be there to get the full effect. Hopefully next year, more might be able to.

One quick note: The original Friday night lesson did not get recorded on scene and had to be re-preached later. This lesson is that one.

Please note: At the conclusion of this lesson within which I had spoken of what I referred to as Satan's "divide + conquer" tactics in the garden of Eden, a wonderful brother in Christ whom I deeply respect, very lovingly pointed something out for further consideration. His conclusion, based on the last sentence of Genesis 3:6, was that Adam was most likely right there with Eve during her entire discussion with Satan. That sentence states (NKJV): "She also gave to her husband with her and he ate."

My conclusion (as evidenced in the sermon) has been more along the lines that she was by herself with Satan when he tempted her - hence only her interaction with Satan and no words from Adam. And as to that last line of verse 6, that it had more to do with her, then, AFTER having had that conversation with Satan, then finding Adam and sharing the forbidden fruit with him. Remember, it says: "She also gave to her husband with her and he ate," seeming to me at least, to focus more on the fact that he ate the fruit with her, than that he was actually standing at the foot of the tree with her when she acquired it. After all, if I go to the store for medication for my sick wife, and buy ice cream while there, even though she is not with me and I am alone at the time I acquire it, when I get home, I give some to my wife and she eats it with me, Or, I give ice cream to my wife with me and she eats some too. The focus is on the fact that she ate it with me, and not necessarily that she was with me at the time I acquired it.

However, whichever way you understand it, or study further and come to understand it differently, the fact remains that Satan still successfully divided and conquered them - even if they were not physically apart or divided at the time of the tree temptation. They were then divided spiritually speaking (She was deceived, he was not - 1 Tim. 2:14). They were then divided maritally speaking, as Adam began pointing the finger of blame at his wife for the first time (Gen. 3:12). And they were definitely conquered as they were subsequently kicked out of the garden.
