Alex returns for the third emergency pod as Urs Fischer leaves Union Berlin after five and a half years in charge of the club, taking them from the 2. Bundesliga to the Champions League. Also on the pod, a firing in the second tier, worries about Frank Lampard, and the history Union Berlin have made with Fischer's temporary replacement.

    • Meet Me at McDonald's

This week on the pod: Serhou Guirassy makes his grand return as Stuttgart beat Borussia Dortmund, the Seoane era in Gladbach takes off as the Foals beat Wolfsburg 4-0, and Harry Kane continues to be Harry Kane as he gets his 17th goal of the season (in 11 games). In the Zweite, Daniel Scherning gets off to a great start with Eintracht Braunschweig by getting a dramatic 3-2 win over his former side Osnabrück, Kiel show their promotion credentials by beating HSV 4-2, Elversberg and Wehen are firmly in the hunt as well whilst St. Pauli and Hannover play out a boring 0-0. Also discussed: which city is windy, a sad strawberry, and who you can meet in a McDonald's near Nürnberg.

      • At the Dentist

This week on Going Deutsch: A classic Lukas Hradecky error nearly allows Hoffenheim to steal a point against Bayer Leverkusen if not for Alex Grimaldo, Bayern Munich have their bi-annual pummeling of Borussia Dortmund, and Union lose their twelfth game in a row to complete the disastrous dozen. In the Zweite, Wehen show they're not even close to the weakest side in the league by beating Fortuna 3-1, St. Pauli remain top after a 2-0 win away at Elversberg, and Schalke look significantly better under Karel Geraerts as they beat Nürnberg 2-1. Also on the pod: the NFL in Germany, Copa Libertadores talk, and how going to the dentist can land you in hot water.

Alex looks back at the DFB Pokal: 3. Liga side Saarbrücken score a 96th minute winner as they knock out Bayern Munich, another seven Bundesliga teams are knocked out whilst Homburg get another upset as they beat Greuther Fürth. Also on the pod: Svensson is sacked, Lukas Kwasniok uses French, and Magdeburg learn that it's important to score in the right net.

          • 5000 Fans at Training

On a spooky episode of the Going Deutsch podcast: the Bayern vs Darmstadt game sees three red cards in the first half and eight goals in the second as the rekordmeister win 8-0, Frankfurt and Dortmund play out an exciting 3-3 draw with VAR controversy, and Augsburg continue to entertain in a 3-2 win over Wolfsburg. In the Zweite: St. Pauli fans whistle their first half performance against Karlsruher but celebrate a 2-1 win in the end, Kaiserslautern blow another lead as they draw 3-3 with HSV, and 62,000 fans see Karel Geraerts get his first win as Schalke manager against Hannover. Also on the pod: Bayern's incredible run in the Champions League, FM24 recommendations, and when Alex watches The Nightmare Before Christmas.

            • Fortuna For Free

Going Deutsch returns following the international break: new Augsburg manager Jess Thorup is surprisingly involved in the best game of the week as his side come from 2-0 down to beat Heidenheim 5-2, Köln get a vital win in the Rhine Derby against Gladbach, whilst Union Berlin continue to plummet with their eighth loss in a row, this one against Stuttgart. In the Zweite: Paderborn score from inside their own half as they draw with St. Pauli, Fortuna Düsseldorf come from 3-0 down to beat Kaiserslautern 4-3, and Elversberg make it six unbeaten by winning against Eintracht Braunschweig. Also on the pod: Bayern's injury crisis, rants about Bake Off, and mentions of cycling.

I would like to extend my thoughts to all those who have lost friends and loved ones in the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict.

              • The Bulter Did It

As Alex celebrates five years since his URY debut: Hoffenheim celebrate a dramatic win against Werder, Darmstadt celebrate their second straight win against Augsburg, and Bayer Leverkusen celebrate a win over local rivals Köln. Alex is also in a good mood due to St. Pauli's 5-1 win over Nürnberg, HSV's dropped points over Wehen, and the continued good results for Elversberg. Also on the pod, national team discussion, a potential third straight relegation, and which amazing goal was forgotten.

                • Reis-less

What better way to celebrate the 33rd anniversary of the reunification of Germany than with a Going Deutsch episode (lots of ways, but ignore them). Bayer Leverkusen return to the top of the Bundesliga following their win against Mainz and Bayern dropping points in a 2-2 draw with Leipzig. Union Berlin continue their fall with a 1-0 defeat away at Heidenheim and Darmstadt pick up their first win with a 4-2 victory over Werder Bremen. In the 2. Bundesliga, St. Pauli go top of the league after a win at the Olympiastadion against Hertha, whilst Fortuna Düsseldorf lose against HSV and a Lennart Grill masterclass is only enough to get Osnabrück a point against Kaiserslautern. Also on the pod, which DFB Pokal fixture everyone in the ARD studio was excited for, a surprise departure in the Bundesliga, and which Zweite manager was the first to be sacked this season.

                • The Bartender in the Basement

A lot has happened in German football over the last week: Germany find their man as Julian Nagelsmann becomes manager of the national team, Serhou Guirassy becomes the best player in the world as he inspires Stuttgart to a win over Darmstadt, Bayern put seven past Bochum for the third year in a row, and Union Berlin find themselves in crisis following a 2-0 loss to Hoffenheim. In the second tier, Timo Baumgartl is too honest following Schalke's 3-1 loss to St. Pauli, HSV lose to another newly promoted side in Osnabrück, and Greuther Fürth celebrate their 120th birthday with a 4-3 thriller against Karlsruher. Also on the pod: the first group stage fixtures in Europe, the grand final of Kit Clash 2023/24, and the bartender in the basement in Köln.

                    • I Can't Hear the Cheese

Going Deutsch returns in full following the international break: Bayer Leverkusen show their title contenders in a 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich at the Allianz, Darmstadt cruise to a 3-0 lead in the first half of their game against Gladbach but blow it thanks to a red card and draw 3-3, whilst Heidenheim celebrate Frank Schmidt's historic milestone and their first Bundesliga win against Werder Bremen. In the Zweite, Hannover put seven past Osnabrück, St. Pauli put five past Kiel, and Elversberg topple HSV whilst Düsseldorf go top of the league.
