Longtime owner and handicapper Tom Cannell leads of the show with his insights. He is followed by NY jockey agent Jason Beides who offers his professional opinion of the Preakness and other races on the card.

We talk about the weekends big races including what to think about Maximum Security off of his so-so effort in the Awesome Again. Also discuss the weakness of California graded races in comparison to other jurisdictions and how the number of them might be reduced in the face of declining foal crops.

On today’s special Going in Circles Podcast we speak to veteran jockey Chris DeCarlo about the new whip regulations being implemented in New Jersey where he has been a mainstay for years.

On today’s Going in Circles LIVE we talk to starter Bob Duncan on issues dealing with the starting gate and how the gate crew’s techniques have evolved over the years. Also talk about the new 20 horse gate that will be used for the KY Derby this year and some of the famous horses that Bob worked with. (Hint mostly legends). On the second half of the show we talked with THT Bloodstock’s Kerry Thomas about his annual Derby horse by horse analysis which comes from a completely different angle than most are looking at the race from.

On tonight’s show Barry and I go through the field of Derby runners and size them up. We also talk about trying to stay positive this week despite being inundated with negative news lately. We wrap up the segment talking about the social aspect of racing that has been missing and all the characters that were around in the good old days.
