Going Offline

There are three building blocks you need to build yourself a ladder to your business goals:

Attracting leads, priming/nurting those leads, and converting them into clients.

But I'm willing to bet that most (if not all!) of you are focusing on one or two of those pieces more than the rest...because that's what most business owners tend to do.

We get swept up in the attraction piece, thinking it will end in conversion...but without the nurture piece, those warm leads will freeze in their tracks.

This is why we can't rely on fifteen-second content to make up the bulk of our marketing. Those fifteen seconds might attract more people into your space, but they're not going to convince those people that you can be trusted as a mentor, that your offers are what they need, or that your method actually works.

It's time to leave the TikTok marketing trend behind.

You probably saw that title and went "Um...has she lost her mind?"

Nope—just my patience.

Nowadays, the constant pursuit of "virality" in our content is WRECKING business owners. We are trapped on the content-creation hamster wheel, constantly churning out new content to try and pander to trends, please the Algorithm Gods, and—if we do it just right—manage to get one of our posts or reels or WHATEVER to gain millions of views overnight.

But here's my question...

What does this actually get us?

More followers? Maybe. More eyes on our offers/products/etc? Maybe.

More conversions? More ideal clients?

Not so much.

"Going viral" is great. It's exciting. It's an incredible feeling to get your offers in front of millions of people with just the click of a button.

But other things can actually take us MUCH farther than viral content...if we can stop running after that coveted content trophy and devote our efforts + attention to things that will ACTUALLY grow our business.

We all know 65 is the magic number.

So many people are working themselves into the ground, heads down, telling themselves that they're working hard now in order to support the life they want later; the life they'll have when they can finally retire.

But what if you didn't have to wait?

What if you didn't have to hustle yourself to pieces before you even get CLOSE to that magic number?

What if you could start living that life TODAY?

My husband and I didn't wait for retirement to start living a life that fulfills us and brings us joy. Instead, we sat down together and mapped out what that life would look like...

And we shifted everything else to make that happen.

Because I had that destination in mind, I was able to INTENTIONALLY build my business with the systems + support that would allow me to live the life we imagined for ourselves...

But if I hadn't taken the time to really narrow in on what mattered to me—on what kind of life would bring me the most joy—I wouldn't have been able to do that.

Let's talk about the importance of drawing up the blueprints for your dream life before you start trying to build it.

Sometimes, we spend so much time focused on business-related content—social media, blogs, podcasts (hi!), even books—that we forget we can find inspiration EVERYWHERE.

For me, EVERYWHERE comes in the form of my garden. My littles. My sourdough starter. Coaching soccer. And yes, reading books...

But not always business books.

Today, I want to share a business lesson I learned from an unlikely source...a fantasy book called Iron Flame.

(Maybe you've heard of it? Maybe you've read it? Maybe you got massively obsessed and read it ten times and went to the midnight release of the sequel because you couldn't wait a second longer?...Or maybe that was just me?)

Let's talk about the importance of beginning with the basics...and putting the work in at the beginning to make things simpler in the long run.

There is an epidemic sweeping the small business community…

An addiction to starting over.

People seem to think that if things aren’t working the way they want in their business, they have to burn it all down in order to build it back up differently.

This just isn’t true.

Some of this comes from a lack of confidence, but some of it comes from a lack of staying power. And no matter which category you might fall into, I want to tell you the same thing:

Sometimes, staying the course is actually scarier than starting from scratch. But more often than not, you don’t need to knock the whole tower down. You just need to shift a block or two around.

How do we know when it’s time to burn it down, and when we need to keep going? Let me tell you the story of how I lost literally a year and a half in my business because I lacked the confidence to stay the course…and how I’m finding my way back today.

Your business is an ecosystem.

Every part of your business interacts with all the others…even if you think of them as separate pieces. When you feed one, it feeds into all the others…

But only if you intentionally build it that way.

When you look at your business like an ecosystem, long-form content can become the fuel that helps it thrive, allowing you to take your hands out of the mix. And there’s one type of long-form content that beats all the others.
