Danny McKenna is an Australian session musician who has displayed a passionate involvement in drumming and music for over twenty-five years.

He is a highly regarded and spirited player, whose uniquely textural approach to playing the drums has earned him well-deserved recognition.

With an intuitive musical language that combines innate feel, adeptness and flair with perceptive listening, Danny is called upon to perform and record regularly with high profile Australian and international acts.

Working primarily in the Australian Blues/Roots/Soul scene, he is also embraced by artists in other genres like jazz, world, experimental soundscape and hard rock.

He has performed with Australia’s best artists across genres of blues, funk/soul, jazz, regga, rock/pop, folk and world music.

His films are recognized for having a strong visual language that explores physicality, embodiment and the alteration of states. I’m not good at quitting things. You? 

 I tend to stick with it, even when things suck. That’s been a huge positive in my life...  It’s allowed me to build a skill in singing, playing guitar and song-writing, keep making music when it’s hard, get a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, have only cold showers for the last 15 months, eat a plant based diet for 17 years, stay in an uncomfortable conversation when I want to storm out.  

Sticking with it yields so many positive outcomes.  But… it has also kept me stuck in places that don’t serve me anymore. Relationships, conversations, education, dud songs, books I should have abandoned, commitments I should have pulled out of and most of all a job that I stopped loving.  

So, I quit my lovely, comfortable, excellent paying job with terrific colleagues that brought my parents the status and pride they’d hoped for. 

 Then I leapt off a cliff that gave me no guarantee of anything. I quit to become a musician.

Callum Barter has been busy working as an Mix & Recording Engineer/Producer for the last 15 years across USA, Australia & beyond. Callum is now based out of Los Angeles (USA) for an exciting new chapter after 4 years as senior Engineer & Manager at Newmarket Studios in Melbourne, Australia. 

Callum has worked with an impressive roster of top artists, including Grammy nominee and four time ARIA Award winner Courtney Barnett, He recorded & mixed Kurt Vile & Courtney Barnett’s album – ‘Lotta Sea Lice”, as well as work with ARIA nominated duo Big Scary and UK’s electro-soul artist and producer, Sampha. Callum has worked as a live FOH engineer for Big Scary, Japanese Wallpaper, Vance Joy, Courtney Barnett, Saskwatch & Bill Callahan to name a few.

Lightning struck my curiosity and took me over when I heard KISS blaring out of our garage in an out-of-the-way little country town in rural Australia. There was something different about the quality of the sound. It was palpable, alive and it sounded like KISS were IN MY GARAGE!

To back it up for a second, I was 10 years old at the time and just starting to get into the rock bands of the late 80's/early 90’s, like Motley Crew, Poison, Guns n’ roses, Aerosmith and ACDC. Don’t judge me, I was 10 at the time.

I’d watch these bands on TV and I started to have some fantasies of being a one of them, but it all felt so out of reach.

Musicians seemed like mythical creatures that would magically appear on the radio and on MTV out of the ether. They would project this energy, flamboyance, creativity and intensity that was somewhat otherworldly.

I wasn’t conscious of it at the time, but music lit me up and went in so deep that it had a grip on me.

I didn’t choose it, it took a hold of me like nothing else in life.
