Good Hope Church's - Sermon Podcast

In this sermon, Pastor Mike Stevens delves into the story of Esther, highlighting the challenges she faced in the powerful kingdom of the Medes and Persians. Despite being a young Jewish woman in a precarious position, Esther rose to become queen and was pivotal in saving her people from annihilation. The sermon emphasizes how Esther, guided by wisdom and courage, exemplifies the "Spirit Led Life," making crucial decisions that aligned with God’s plan. Pastor Mike also contrasts the brutal reality of the Old Covenant, where justice often meant vengeance, with the New Covenant brought by Jesus, where forgiveness and grace prevail. He encourages us to embrace this spirit-led approach in their lives, allowing wisdom and the Holy Spirit to guide their actions toward love and forgiveness.

In Part 10 of "The Spirit Led Life," Pastor Mike Stevens delves into the lives of Stephen and Phillip, two early church leaders introduced in Acts 6. He emphasizes that great things often start small, as seen when Stephen and Phillip began by solving a seemingly minor issue in the church, which later became pivotal in spreading the Gospel. Stephen's journey highlights the courage and wisdom that come from living a Spirit-led life, even in the face of intense persecution. In contrast, Phillip's path shows how the Holy Spirit can guide us to unexpected places, leading to revival and transformation. Though their lives took different turns, both men exemplified the extraordinary adventures that await those who follow God's leading.

In Part 9 of the "Spirit Led Life" series, Pastor Daniel Stevens delves into the story of Job, a prosperous man from the time between Abraham and Moses. Despite his righteousness and wealth, Job faces intense trials when Satan challenges his faithfulness to God.

Pastor Daniel emphasizes that Job's story teaches us key lessons: the goodness of God versus the schemes of the Devil, the importance of resisting Satan, and the need for forgiveness and faith in the face of suffering. Even when well-meaning people say hurtful things, Job’s example shows the power of prayer and restoration.

Pastor Daniel concludes with a powerful reminder to equip ourselves with the full armor of God, as outlined in Ephesians 6:11-20, to withstand the "day of evil" and live empowered by God's Spirit.

In his sermon "The Spirit Led Life – Part 8: Prosperity," Pastor Daniel Stevens discusses an alternative to a life driven by selfish pleasure or dead religion, presenting the "Spirit-led life" as the "third option." Referencing Mark 8:35 and the story of the Rich Young Man from Mark 10:24-31, Pastor Stevens highlights the balance between living for this life and the next. He emphasizes that while sacrifice is necessary, serving Jesus offers profound benefits in the present, including fulfillment and a sense of community.

Pastor Daniel also explores the concept of prosperity, discussing the importance of laying down material possessions and embracing a life of faith, as exemplified by Hebrews 11:6. He speaks to the current generation's quest for purpose, noting that material indulgence doesn't equate to happiness. Concluding with 1 Timothy 6:6-12, Pastor Daniel invites the audience to embark on the adventure of a devoted life for Christ, finding joy and purpose in the present while anticipating eternal rewards.

In Pastor Daniel Stevens' sermon "The Spirit Led Life: Part 7 - Kingdom Mindset," he emphasizes the importance of adopting a mindset focused on God's Kingdom. He contrasts the often seen options of selfish pleasure-seeking and dead religion, advocating instead for a Spirit-led life. This mindset, exemplified by Jesus in Luke 22:42 and illustrated through Acts 2:42-47, transforms how believers see and interact with the world, urging them to share God's love and plan of redemption.

Pastor Daniel challenges the congregation to move beyond judgmental, consumerist, and complacent attitudes, instead embracing a Kingdom Mindset that prioritizes evangelism and abundant life in Christ. He stresses that having this mindset means believing in the reality of Heaven and the role each believer plays in bringing God's good news to others. Concluding with a call to live a life of victory in Christ, he prepares the audience for next week's topic on prosperity.

In Part 6: Surrender, Pastor Daniel Stevens dives into the concept of fully surrendering to God as the foundation for living a Spirit-led life. He references Acts 5:40-42 to highlight the unwavering commitment of the apostles despite persecution, contrasting it with the likely reaction of modern American Christians. Pastor Daniel emphasizes that true surrender means being led by God's will rather than personal desires or societal pressures. He also introduces a mini-series within the sermon series, focusing on "Surrender," "Kingdom Mindset," and "Prosperity," in that specific order.

Using the story of the rich young ruler in Mark 10:17-23, Pastor Daniel illustrates the difference between a consumer mindset and genuine surrender. He challenges believers to embrace the teachings of Mark 8:34-36, underscoring that true freedom and joy come from surrendering to Christ. Citing Paul the Apostle's example in Philippians 3:4-14, he demonstrates that giving up worldly gains for the sake of Christ leads to greater, eternal rewards. Pastor Daniel concludes by urging the congregation to pray for the faith to surrender, just as Jesus did in Luke 22:42.
