The story of Jonah is one of the most well-known and most unusual passages in the Biblical Old Testament.  Although many people have heard about Jonah being swallowed by a fish, the meaning of the story is often mistaken.  What we discover upon deep inspection of Jonah is that the book has very little to do with fish or whales. The primary theme of the story is that God’s mercy and love extend to everyone, even outsiders and oppressors.
