Good Morning, Podcasters! episodes

  • Why your podcast should utilize segments
Long-form podcasts, especially discussion panels or interviews, have a tendency to find the listener drifting in-and-out of an attentive state. Segments can provide structure which refocus their attention at various intervals; segments can also keep you focused and less stresses. Another benefit? They can help you seem more professional and organized - and that could lead to more sharing from your guests and future guest referrals.

  • News Roundup, New Sponsorship Format, and #FANTF!
I haven't talked about podcasting news in a while, so lets kick it old school and do a news roundup. Before that, a Found A New Things Friday (#FANTF), and after that, an explanation of how I'd like to invite you to sponsor this podcast in a way that benefits both of us - keeping the community focus strong!

Padverb isn't a podcast/guest matching service. I signed up for the service, created a profile, and then didn't poke around further because I figured "It's a matching service, what's to know?" Well, take things for granted and they bite you in the ass later. Padverb isn't anything more than an interview directory. Find a person you follow and you can see all their appearances in one place. There's probably some SEO / organic discovery value here for those of you who are building a personal brand with your podcast, and maybe Padverb adds matching features in the future, but they haven't yet so, currently, Padverb likely isn't useful to most of you. Sorry for the fuck up. I'll be more careful in the future.

  • The Happiest Man Alive [#PodAudit]
A random unknown man telephones Amanda Maxham in 2021 and told her something quite unlikely, "I am the happiest man alive." He then asked for an impossible favor, "I'd like you to prove whether or not I actually am." This lead to the podcast "Happiest Man Alive" a wonderful example of storytelling in podcasting, and a podcast I'm looking forward to featuring in today's #PodAudit

Ed Cunard asks about back catalogue re-mastering. Is it worth it? Is it hurting him in the long run? I say no, on both counts. I explain further in this episode.

  • Podcast Listener Data with Tom Webster of Edison Research
Two guys from New England (I actually didn't know Tom was from Maine) come together to talk about podcast listener data from the perspective of a schmuck with a daily podcast and a guy who really knows what he's doing. I'll leave it to you to sort out who's who, but here's a hint: I'm the schmuck.

  • FX Chain Order and Gain Staging
Perry Carpenter of the 8th Layer Insights podcast drops by to ask me a few questions about FX Chains and Gain Staging. This episode will be most useful to those of you who are using proper DAWs to edit and engineer your podcast. FX Chains and Gain Staging doesn't apply to a tool like Audacity because Audacity isn't a real DAW (no judgement, I'm just saying).

  • What makes a good podcast website?
Matt Medeiros is the host of Audience, the in-house podcast over at Castos.com, and today he's dropping by to ask me a question about podcast websites. In particular, he's asking "What makes a good podcast website?" My answer? Structure, intuitive navigation, and SEO-centric content. None of the rest really matters.
