This is not just a Christmas story! God supernaturally intervenes in human affairs to bring about his plan of salvation. We see God’s sovereign control of all history as He who works out His plan of salvation. We saw in Galatians 4:4 that God had a plan from the beginning: “when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law.” The story of Jesus’ birth fulfilled many prophecies in the OT. It unfolds the truth of Jesus’ origin: He was conceived by the Holy Spirit.
