In this sermon:
(1) God Creates Adam
What is the difference between chapters 1 and 2?
We see here God's provision for man:
1 - God gives man life (a soul)
2 - God gives man a material body
3 - God gives man everything he needs
(2) God commands Adam
A helpful definition of "covenant": A covenant is an oath-sworn, legally binding relationship, enforced by God
The 4 aspects to the covenant of works:
1 - The parties involved (God and Adam)
2 - The Conditions (Guard the garden, don't eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
3 - The Penalty (Death)
4 - The Reward (Eternal Life)
How does the covenant of works apply to us today?
1 - It helps us to understand our natural condition before God.
2 - It teaches us that God doesn't grade on a curve.
3 - It points us to the One who is our righteousness before God.
