Overview: To Issace the LORD renewed the covenant he had made with Abraham. But then Isaac follows his father's bad example when he lied to the Philistines, saying that his beautiful wife Rebecca was his sister. The pagan King Abimelech discovered this and in anger rebuked Isaac for his duplicity. Yet in spite of his sin we see that God blessed greatly his crops and herds and caused the Philistines to desire a peace treaty between the two people. Isaac's weaknesses did not negate the LORD's promise to be with him and to bless the nations through his offspring -the promised Messiah-. God declares his love and commitment to his weak and sometimes failing people in the great declaration in Hebrews 11-16, -Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God...- We Christians are like Isaac- weak and sometimes sinning men and women, but God's grace is greater than our sin and his loving commitment to us will not abate.

Overview: The Scriptures, both OT and NT, clearly indicate that God chose the people of Israel as the only tribe on earth through which he revealed his nature, his will, and his plan to send the Messiah, the Savior of sinners. When the -epiphany, - i.e., revelation of the Messiah arrived in the person of Jesus of Nazareth, the evidence of who he was was manifold and unmistakable. The predictions of the prophets and their fulfillment in his life and ministry is one example. Although most of the Jewish people rejected the Messiah, it was necessary that he be revealed, first of all, to the Jewish nation. But this was the basis for him being the -epiphany- also to the Gentile nations and thus the Savior for all peoples of the earth who will come to him in faith and repentance.

Throughout the OT the Word of God was the One who manifested himself to his people.This was seen principally in the incarnation of our Lord Jesus - the Son of God who came among us and through his presence on earth became the Redeemer of God's people. Though Christ died, resurrected and ascended, he is still present by the Holy Spirit in his people. And when Christ returns he will be among his people in his glorified physical body to accomplish their final deliverance from sin, death, and hell.
