In this episode Scharlee and Emily talk about two strategies that help them (and hopefully you) "rest in the Lord" as Psalm 37:7 says. These two practices are spending time with God and meditating on Scripture.
Sounds simple, right?
In fact, you probably already knew that these things can help us feel rested when life is swirling around us with busyness. But knowing is often easier than doing, which is why Scharlee and Emily discuss practical ways to implement these strategies into our daily lives, even as time constraints and seasons change.
Do you ever feel weary? Overwhelmed? Anxious?
In today's episode Scharlee and Emily discuss some things Emily has been learning about rest. She has felt all of these things (today even!) - weariness, overwhelm, anxiety - and God has been leading her deeper into learning about and experiencing His rest.
Join them as they start the conversation this week about rest.
In this episode Emily and Scharlee talk with a surprise guest about her journey through discovering an intense food sensitivity. Her diagnosis is an actual auto-immune disease so she had to change her entire diet, cannot eat food that is cross contaminated (making eating out super difficult), and struggling with gaining weight - something that had never been an issue for her before. We discuss all the ins and outs of eating for her particular food needs and give some tips on encouraging friends with food allergies or sensitivities. We also discuss the social aspect of eating and how difficult it is to share a communal meal when you can't eat what everyone else is having.
I know you'll be encouraged and challenged by this episode, plus you'll want to find out who our guest actually is! (:
Seth Glenn is 50% of the party, or at least that's what he likes to say. Emily is the other 50% because, well, Seth is Emily's brother, and also Scharlee's son.
Seth is married to an incredible woman, J.J. Glenn, and they have two sons who are getting older by the second. Seth works in IT for a hospital in Oklahoma City and he and his family live next door to Scharlee.
Seth also has a huge passion for reaching people for Jesus in the online gaming community. So much so that about 4 years ago he and a friend from church started a ministry through the live streaming gaming platform Twitch, and it has grown and still continues today.
In this episode Scharlee and Emily talk with Seth about the gaming, live streaming, the ministry he helped start and so much more.
Randy Varnell is a self-professed "kid-nerd," but there is so much more to him than that as you will hear in this episode. Emily and Scharlee talk to Randy about a gamut of things including his work as a video game developer at Gear Box Media, his many and varied hobbies, how he developed his love for video and computer games, and how he prioritizes family and time with God over his other interests.
If you are a bit of a Luddite at times, like Emily, Randy's love for the gaming industry, the people in it, the stories it shares, and the way God is using him there will bring you refreshment and energize you to view the technology around you with a positive perspective.
Randy is also a father, husband, active church member, armchair theologian, and passionate follower of Christ.
We know you'll enjoy hearing his story as much as we did.
The website for Randy's company can be found here, and if you're interested in the "seminary light" that Randy mentioned, BSF (Bible Study Fellowship), more information can be found on that here.
In this unedited abstract Randy, Emily, and Scharlee discuss video game rating systems - what they are, what they mean, how they are assigned and why game developers want to follow these systems. They also discuss the importance of spending time getting to know what your children and grandchildren are interested in, whether it's video games, movies, music, books, or anything else.

Have you ever been so mad at God you found yourself literally yelling at Him?
In today's episode Scharlee and Emily talk with Paul Lowe, husband of Shelley Lowe, about his perspective on their journey through infertility, miscarriage, difficult prognosis, and a scary birth experience. I have honestly never heard a father speak on his experience with these things until this conversation with Paul and let me tell you, Paul shares with incredible vulnerability about his struggles as a father and husband enduring these hardships. Paul also shares deep insights that God shared with him through all of their suffering.
This is a conversation you do not want to miss.
Scharlee, Emily, and Paul also talk about the small farm (NOT hobby farm) he and Shelley run. If you are interested in learning more about life on a small farm check out their youTube channel Lowe Ridge Farm.
Shelley Lowe is a dear friend of Scharlee and Emily, as well as a wife and mother. She and her husband, Paul, live on a small farm with their two children, sheep, rabbits, chickens, dogs, and other things. They also run the YouTube Channel Lowe Ridge Farm that gives city folks a chance to see what life on a farm is really like. They can also be found on social media at Lowe Ridge Farm.
In today's episode Scharlee and Emily talk with Shelley about life on the farm, but also what it's like to walk through secondary infertility, miscarriage, a rainbow baby with possible genetic defects, and early labor and delivery. Shelley shares about the difficulty of walking through these things, but also God's faithfulness to carry them through and His capacity to handle all of our emotions, even anger.
You do not want to miss this conversation with Shelley. She is candid, encouraging, and wise. We laugh and cry. We so enjoyed our conversation with Shelley and we know you will, too.
The song Scharlee mentions at the end is "Blessings" by Laura Story and it can be found here.
