  • Their 2-Year-Old Son Died But They Are Sharing His Story to Make a Difference
Daniel Weber and his family are sharing a tragic story about their 2-year-old son Conner to increase awareness towards raising funds for the Hospital via The Children’s Hospital Trust.

Connor passed away after drowning in a bucket filled with water stored outside the house during the droughts in Cape Town.

“We rushed to the Emergency Centre at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, a memory spanning a few crucial minutes of anxiety as we hurried through passages with other families, children, medical equipment, an air of hope and, thankfully, dedicated medical professionals everywhere.”

Connor had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital, where the family spent five crucial days hoping to save Connor before he devastatingly passed on.

“Although our child passed away, we will always remember and be thankful to the Red Cross Children’s Hospital. From the Doctors who provided such specialist care that it felt like Connor was the only child in the ward in a busy Hospital, to the amazing Nurses who prayed and sang with us every night”.

The Weber family, courageous in the memory and celebration of their son’s life, is sharing their child’s story to increase awareness towards raising funds for the Hospital via The Children’s Hospital Trust. All about South Africa's Good News Podcast! ❤️🇿🇦

  • Pushed into Purpose - you're one decision away from a whole new life!
Devon Brough’s life has been nothing short of a roller-coaster ride.

The son of a member of the 70's all-girl band Clout should've been living his best life, but has spent the majority of his adult existence caged in a prison of fear, engulfed in a darkness so dense he could barely see himself putting one foot in front of the other.

An unending battle with alcoholism and addiction held Devon in a crippling cycle of resentment, shame and guilt. He felt separate and apart from life… and the people in it. Many times he just wanted to escape reality and hide from the world.

But Devon is a survivor and his mess has become his message as he now coaches South Africans into finding themselves and living their purpose!

“Looking back at my life so far, the darkest times and places have become the most beautiful. Why? Well, because there is something quite magical about the dark. That’s where things grow.”

  • Hey You! You Need to Save For Retirement! Here’s Why:
In a recent survey conducted in January 2022, the majority of South Africans indicated that they save less than 15% of their salaries, while 35% indicated that they don’t save at all.

This means many South Africans will not be able to retire (or else have to lower their standard of living considerably) as there will not be funds to rely on. This scenario usually paints a gloomy picture, as people will have to work for longer or become dependent on their children.

Discovery is hoping to change that mindset for future leaders of tomorrow, and I cannot shout loud enough how important this campaign is!

Jennifer Arense from Discovery has joined us today to chat about retirement and how Discovery hopes to help us! Not sure who needs to hear this, but you need to start saving for retirement. · All about South Africa's Good News Podcast! ❤️🇿🇦

  • Amplifying The Love: The Santa Shoebox Project Doubles Up This Year!
Poverty is like a punishment for a crime you didn’t commit… especially when we look at the children who suffer these circumstances. Every child deserves to be loved, taken care of, and enjoy Christmas time. Every child deserves a Santa Shoebox!

The Santa Shoebox Project was started in 2006 as a way for people to provide gifts to children who often go without during the festive season. The first roll-out saw just 180 gift boxes distributed to children in need. In 2020, that number crossed the 1 million mark.

The Project, which is now in its 16th year, is an inspiring community initiative that collects uniquely personalised gifts for underprivileged children. Equally, the project is about parents teaching their own children the Joy of Giving.

“When a donor pledges a Santa Shoebox, they promise a child the gift of self-worth and fulfilled potential. These are so much more than “just” a shoebox; each donor fills a decorated shoebox with 8 required items – a toothbrush and toothpaste, soap and a facecloth, school supplies, a toy, sweets and an outfit of clothing.”

The Santa Shoebox team joined the Good Things Guy Podcast to discuss the awesome initiative as well as this year's theme: Let the haves share the love! All about South Africa's Good News Podcast! ❤️🇿🇦
