  • Keeping hope alive, even in times of tragedy!
On Thursday the 27th of September, Karen Landi became a crime statistic. The day started like any other for her… some charity work, looking after South Africa’s most vulnerable, and most importantly teaching the youth of today to be better tomorrow.

Little did she know that as the sun set, she would be beaten, bruised and pushed to the brink of breaking in a violent hijacking that forced her to look fear right in the eye and come to terms that those moments could be her last on earth.

Her story is heartbreaking, tragic and somehow inspiring.

She refuses to be a victim of this crime. She refuses to change the way she sees our country and our people because of three men who chose to viciously beat, assault and terrorise her.

She believes those three men do not make up South Africa and she joins the Good Things Guy Jacpod to tell us her story of survival and hope.

This is a must listen interview, one that will leave you in tears and somehow inspire you along the way: Keeping hope alive, even in times of tragedy! · All about South Africa's Good News Podcast! ❤️🇿🇦

  • How Alison Botha’s horrific ordeal created an incredible initiative that's saved lives
On an evening in December 1994, an extraordinary event took place in Alison’s ordinary life.

She was abducted by two men and taken to the outskirts of the coastal city of Port Elizabeth in South Africa, where they raped and brutally assaulted her. She was stabbed in the abdomen more than 30 times, and her throat was slit from side to side. The men left her for dead in the bushes. But somehow, she lived. Somehow she was able to find her way back to the road where she collapsed. A car finally stopped and found the near-dead Alison.

    Despite the odds, she lived.

Woman INpowered really started when Alison Botha got up and decided to live in December 1994, but the idea was born in 2000 when Mark Grobbler wrote his thesis.

It became a full-time concern in 2012. WIP, as its known, is an extremely simple, easy to learn yet devastatingly effective self INpowerment system that has been designed specifically for Women (and now men too) to give them the ability to make a choice in a threatening situation.

Mark joins Brent Lindeque in a candid discussion about Alison, the WIP program and how it saved a Miss South Africa’s life.

  • Where To From Here? Catching Up With Graeme Codrington!
What exactly are these proposed new health regulations? Why are South Africans so angry? And where do we go from here? Graeme Codrington joins Good Things Guy to chat about the state of the nation.

Yeah, it's a controversial conversation but there are three key points that stand out:

    Get the facts.

In 2005, Shaun Hide was knocked down on the highway after experiencing trouble with his vehicle.

Shaun's led a relatively normal life since then and achieved so much with a 'broken' body, even learning to walk on his own. But a few months ago things started going horribly wrong and Shaun began losing feeling in his legs and is now confined to a wheelchair.

  • From Charity to Sharity! This is the Story of Miles Kubheka... aka Vuyo!
Miles Kubheka has always had the desire to make a meaningful mark on the world and in 2012 he became the first person in the entire world to create a business based on a TV advert.

The advert was about a character named “Vuyo” who starts off selling wors rolls from a food cart and then makes it “beeeg”.

Miles innovatively trademarked the Vuyo’s brand and actually opened the first Vuyo’s restaurant, but he has done so much more to help South Africans since then.

  • Random Acts of Kindness... and driving HOPE!
#DriveHope was created from a desperate cry for help in a post on Facebook. When Karen Denny, Divisional Executive for Liberty’s Digital Marketing team, first read it, her heart sank. An elderly woman had anonymously poured her heart out, searching for help after she was sexually assaulted by a relative. The woman’s family and friends couldn’t offer her the support she needed, she had lost her job because of the COVID-19 lockdown, and her Unemployment Insurance Fund payments were still outstanding.

Reading the post was an emotional rollercoaster – the sadness surrounding the woman’s situation, the outrage over her suffering and inability to find help, and finally knowing that the Liberty #DriveHope Squad could somehow assist.

“I remember when I first called her, she couldn’t stop crying. I told her – I promised her – that we were going to help,” said Denny.

The physical distance created by the national lockdown was a challenge, but she and Liberty’s #DriveHopeSquad, a team of internal colleagues – knew that at the very least, they could help the woman get medical attention, both physically and psychologically, and provide her with food to sustain her until she could get back on her feet.

This was just one of the hundreds of random acts of kindness that the squad has undertaken since the campaign began. Good Things Guy Brent Lindeque chats to Karen to find out more about the #DriveHope initiative. All about South Africa's Good News Podcast! ❤️🇿🇦

  • Kim Nicola Stephens And Finding Humour through the Pandemic!
Kim Nicola Stephens is fast becoming our favourite author during South Africa’s COVID-19 lockdown… because we need laughter more now than anything!

She has given us the top 10 middle-class quarantine categories, a hilarious depiction of how confusing level 4 actually is, the beauty truths of the burbs during the lockdown, the runners versus smokers debacle and she weighed in (hilariously) about how everyone in South Africa has suddenly become an expert on nearly everything.

South Africans have a way of getting through the toughest times, usually with a side dish of humour, and her writing is on point.

Kim permitted Good Things Guy to post her pieces, and we also got to chat with the author about what her lockdown experience has really been like. The 8 Middle-Class Lockdown South Africans… Updated For 2021! · All about South Africa's Good News Podcast! ❤️🇿🇦

  • How a South African Got Involved With The Tinder Swindler
Brands rarely step out of the box to be brave with new ideas, but when Mike Sharman and Glen Biderman-Pam pitched an idea to bring a South African version of the Tinder Swindler to life in a hilarious skit, the Sixty60 team didn't blink for a second and the return on that has been massive!

They didn't know the "Simon-Tells-All" would be such a big hit, but they pitched the idea, and the brand was brave enough to try it.
