Drawing from her background in policy, Mimosa Jones Tunney set out to revolutionize education by founding and developing the American Emergent Curriculum (AEC), groundbreaking curriculum leveraging the science of human learning through proven pedagogical research. The curriculum has been implemented through a NY-based brick-and-mortar school called The School House and an online program called, TSH Anywhere, which has shown to successfully resolve all the current education system’s issues.

As you transition out of adolescents and into adulthood, life begins by establishing your SELF. You’re establishing your career, your family, your reputation. This is what David Brooks calls the first mountain. Eventually, discontent sets in and you realize that there’s something more to life. You realize that there is more beyond the SELF.

If you follow this realization to its end, you’ll find that helping OTHERS is what will bring you purpose and fulfillment in life. This is what David Brooks calls the second mountain. Many people don’t make that transition from the first mountain to the second mountain and end up paying the price in the end. Today, we want to learn the lessons that those people didn’t learn so we don’t fall into that trap.

Today’s conversation is with Lawrence Dunning. Lawrence was born in England, holds a BA Degree in History and an MBA in Finance, from the University of Exeter. After an intense career spanning the derivative trading pits of Amsterdam, Wall Street, and owning his own company at the Chicago Board of Trade, he was a self-made millionaire before the age of thirty.

Realizing he had a very small window to pursue his love of the combat sports, Lawrence gave away his trading company and took a lengthy sabbatical. From his love of amateur boxing, after winning the Chicago Golden Gloves, he spent the next five years as a professional MMA fighter, and a jiu-jitsu competitor, earning his black belt in 2016.

At 35 years old, after being immersed in his athletic pursuits, and making every financial mistake there was, he saw his net worth evaporate. Lawrence then turned his focus on his professional reinvention in the real estate world. He is the founder of “The Dunning Team”, a real estate group based in Chicago, specializing in ground up developments and building investment portfolios for his clients.

Today, Lawrence continues to teach, train and compete in jiujitsu. He just completed his goal of being the first jiujitsu black belt to have run a marathon on all 7 continents (including Antartica). He hosts “Enter the Lionheart”, his podcast about excellence amongst entrepreneur, athletes and intellectuals. And recently published his book "The Forgotten Asset Class" on low risk, high reward,. Real Estate Investing. However, his best accomplishment yet, is raising his young son Victor and enjoying family life with his two dogs and adoring wife Jen.

One thing that humans are terrible at is gaining perspective. This is understandable considering we only have our own lens with which to view the world. But it’s a tendency that also leads us to hang onto problems longer than we need to and to make big problems out of small problems which adds unnecessary pain and misery to life.

So, learning to put things in perspective is a skill that you need to build if you’re going to achieve as much happiness in life that you can.
