Goodlad Unscripted

One year ago my Uncle Leonard lost his left leg below the knee in a motorcycle accident.  He has spent the past twelve months healing and learning how to get around with a prosthesis. The accident happened in Phoenix.  He travels there from his home in Melfort, Saskatchewan, Canada each winter to avoid the bitter prairie weather back home.

He stopped by to visit us in Vegas this week on his way to Phoenix.  He is getting around pretty well.  He bought a Harley Trike and hauled it on a trailer behind his truck.

I invited him to join me on the podcast to talk about the wreck and life in Saskatchewan.

Cady and Emma moved to their forever home on Saturday after living with us for seven months.  Jesse is having a really hard time and misses his sister Emma very much.  While we help him process it, as well as our own feelings, looking forward to what's next and building a better future for us as a couple, as a family, as business people, and as people that love to live and serve.  I hope you enjoy the show

This morning Ana and I had an honest talk about our marriage, our business and our lives in general.  It's been almost two years now since Jesse came to live with us, seven months since Emma and Cady blessed our family.  It has been very trying at times, we have made mistakes but we learned from them and we have gotten better at everything, including our marriage, but it's not what it once was and we want some of that back.

We talked about what we want and need, what we want our marriage to be, and our lives, and we made a plan to get ourselves there.  It will take some work, some adjusting, we will need to get better at some things, and we will have to start paying attention to details.  It's the small things that change a marrriage, grains of sand, either for the better or worse.  It's a choice, and taking responsiblity.  After we talked we got out of our van and walked into the shop and into the recording studio and shared our thoughts, raw and unscripted.  We hope it helps anyone else out there struggling with the same things we do.  The older I get the more I realize that love is everything and I am not prepared to lose the best thing that ever happened to me.

On September 30th I was sitting at my desk at home when it came to me.  I'm done.  I decided to retire.  Not because I'm tired or fed up or worn out.  I decided to pull the pin so I can shoot the pictures, write the stories and make the video that I want to make as often as I wish so I can make some good use of all the years of experience.Ana and I recap my working years, the twists, turns and other stuff I haven't talked about before.  This show is a little longer than usual, but hopefully you think it's worth it.  

This isn't the end as much as it is a beginning.  I hope you will join me for the ride.

Marriage can be a lot of work and should be if you want to do it well.  The hardest times can either tear you apart or make you stronger than ever. Ana Tigre joins me to talk about being foster parents of three toddlers at age 59(me) and 43(her) and we come clean about the hard times as well as how we turned them into good times.  Raising kids is never easy and dealing with traumatized kids adds a dense level of complexity but the challenge forced us to evaluate, learn and do things better.  Today we are happy to say things have smoothed out, or as smooth as they can get with two two year olds and a three year old.  

We had a fun visit and talked openly about the ups and downs and why we decided to be foster parents.
