Rick DeLauter has dedicated the past 43 years of his life to serving his country, the United States Of America.  His grandfather served in World War 1.  His father and uncles served in World War II.  And his oldest son, like him, also served in the military.  After 22 years in the Army, Rick retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and has continued serving in other roles related to the military to this day.  He is a guy that does that high-speed classified work throughout the world that is necessary to keep our country and interests safe and free.  I think he is a hero and a man that all good men can learn from and pattern themselves behind.

At sixty-five years of age, he is the father of five-year-old Benjamin, who has Down Syndrome.  His perspective on being a dad and Benjamin's dad challenge me to be better with my own children.  He is a Christian and a man that comes from a mixed-race and mixed-culture home and sees nothing but the positives of that experience.  

I had intentions of this podcast being a 30-minute show.  I should have known better.  We cut it short at an hour, and it was one of the fastest moving hours of my life.  I could listen to Rick for days.  He has formed his opinions based on his own experiences gleaned from a lifetime spent dealing with realities around the globe that most of us could never even imagine.  He is a man I respect, and it was an honor to have him on the show.

Ana and I are together 24/7 right now and like a lot of couples, it's not an easy thing to do.  When things got contentious we had to make a choice to either let it escalate or sort out the issues and make our marriage a success.  That realization was the catalyst for tremendous growth and change and what we learned became the foundation for how we now deal with all adversity.  As with every podcast Ana and I do together, we hope this helps others that may not be doing so well with all the stress on their marriage right now.

This has been a long time coming but we filed papers recently and today we got a court date for the adoption of Crystal, our former foster son's biological mother.  When we told our family and friends they didn't understand why.  We talk about why in this episode and it's for the most simple of reasons.  We also talk about our business, how quarantine and Covid have impacted it, and what we are doing about it.  Doing the right thing because it is the right thing to do is important and we do our best to live our life in a way that reflects those values.  We aren't perfect by a long shot, but we have a perfect record of doing our best, learning from our mistakes, and making something good from what we have left to work with.

Quarantine is over, and life is getting busier again. We didn't adjust very well initially, but a few weeks into this, we figured out that we had to figure it out and find a better way.  We solved some issues by becoming more efficient, but the most significant improvements came when we changed how we thought about and approached our days, and the things and people in it.  

Today, we are busier than ever before, but happier, more productive, and our family is stronger, happier, and healthier.  This episode, we talk about how we did it.

She was born into the gang life and lived it to its fullest for thirty years before being inspired to make a change.  She did the bold thing, the thing she never imagined she could ever do.  She earned her GED, and then later, her certification as a Phlebotomist and a Medical Assistant graduating with honors.  But after graduation, the job prospects didn't come through, and then a global pandemic and quarantine hit, so any job was out of the question.  

How many people would give up?  How about an African-American woman that grew up in the gang life and knew nothing else until three years ago?  Would she walk away from her dreams and return to her old life of crime and violence?

Crystal made a choice.  She is working on her bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. 

She joins me on this podcast to talk about all of it.  The thoughts and feelings and her darkest moments and why she won't be going back to the life she left.  She is a remarkable woman that inspires me daily because she takes full responsibility for her life and choices.  Because of that, she has the power to change whatever she wishes about herself.

Missy Posterli is on the management team of one of the most famous nightclubs in Las Vegas, she is an exceptional model, and a mom.  Her life was rock-solid until Covid-19 came along and extended quarantine has put her career on hold and in question.  She was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio, a place decimated by the death of US Steel and frequented by mobsters and other social parasites yet it's a place she is proud to be from for the values and character It provided her.  Most of all she learned to get back up, with a vengeance, when life knocks you down.  Missy and I talk about Youngstown, growing up, and how she is spending her time on quarantine and what her next moves will be.

Mel Bobocel and I used to be police officers and partners on the job.  After police work I got into business and photography and he became a helicopter pilot.  Eight thousand hours later of pilot in command time of a variety of helicopters working in some of the most dangerous conditions.  We talk about his two crashes, being stalked by bears, and life as a helicopter pilot in Canada's beautiful and rugged north.
