AntiTrash 2022 continues this week with our next sci-fi pick, and Stanley Kubrick finally makes an appearance on the GenreCast. That's right, we're talking about another of the most influential films of all time with 2001: A Space Odyssey. Cold, calculating, hopeful? We try to decipher this monolith of a film as we talk about what it could mean. We also discuss Kubrick's style, self indulgence, life, the universe, and everything. Come along with us on this journey as we evaluate the Dawn of Man.

It's time for our annual Antitrash Celebration! With prestige season in full effect, we look at the movies that probably will be discussed in a film studies course—and this month, we're going sci-fi with our picks. And we're kicking it off with one of the most influential films of all time, Fritz Lang's Metropolis from 1927. This bold work has inspired generations of artists, but how has it held up to time? We discuss this, and its impact. We also talk about the theology of Metropolis, its different commentaries on society and labor, and much more as we ring in 2022.

Happy New Year, dear friends! We're ringing out 2021 as we always do—The Shelvies! If this is your first time listening to The Shelvies, it's a look back at the year in GoodTrash as we reflect on all the movies we watched specifically for this show. It's not a "Best Movies of 2021". It's just a way for us to get an episode out without watching a movie. This is one we always recommed as a diving in point as it highlights the episodes we think were good and the movies that lent the most to the conversations. We'll be awarding our "Best Worst Movie", dropping the "Hebrew Hammer", discussing out "Favorite Discovery", and much more before we place the best titles of the year on the Platinum Shelf.
Thanks for another year with us, we hope you've enjoyed our selections, our conversations, and our silliness. Here's to another year! We'll be back next week to kickstart our 2022 Antitrash Marathon, where things get scientific.
Our final episode of our Buddy Marathon hits right as the holidays are winding down as we take a look at the female-led buddy cop comedy The Heat. This Paul Feig joint stars his constant collaborator Melissa McCarthy as well as Sandra Bullock as two detectives on the trail of a Boston drug lord. But, does it cook up the laughs? We quickly discuss those reviews before turning to our analysis analyzer (cop lingo) to crack open the interior of this one. We're talking cop comedies, Melissa McCarthy, Paul Feig, allyship, the issue of a minor subplot involving a serial killer, and we take a look at the Wayans Family Tree. Tune in now as we wrap up our Buddy Marathon.

Our Buddy marathon continues with a Shane Black Christmas event as we take on the 2016 semi-cult classic, The Nice Guys. This noir flavored buddy picture places Russel Crowe and Ryan Gosling together. But, does it work? We revisit our discussions of Shane Black's scripting from last week, and evaluate The Nice Guys as a re-evaluated version of that story. We talk about women, sex, violence, and formalism as we take this one to the analysis table. Join us now!
