The latest king of the movie box office is a snappy blockbuster following the exploits of anthropomorphic legos! It’s The Lego Movie!

Brink Brickly declares to you his affection for the flick… and describes the feelings that he experienced while viewing it. We discuss the manifold realms to which the movie transports its characters and viewers. The fact that The Lego Movie does not appear to have a plodding dedication to teaching young people about recycling is celebrated.

Then the conversation is uprooted momentarily to give me an opportunity to talk about my recently discovered love… the theaters installing these leather recliners in place of their old stadium seating. I emotionally speak about what these seating wonders have done for my life.

When the President ran for the White House the first time, he indicated he needed to go and rescue the nation from an executive branch that – under President GW Bush – was just bullying the rest of the government around and basically doing whatever it very well wanted. He said he would go in there and return us to the way the constitution said things should be between the branches of government and champion people’s rights and that stuff.

Well, here we are just over 5 years into his presidency, and he’s expanded the power of the presidency even further than that other guy. Just in the last weeks’ comes news that he’s changing the dates when the employer mandate to provide insurance under that sweet new healthcare law goes into effect. Not changing the settled, passed law of the land mind you (as sucky as that thing is…). He’s just doing it, and the HHS is telling people that’s the way it is.

Brink and I are, as you might expect, displeased. We discuss how this phenomenon, exhibited as well in regards to the minimum wage and issues like gay marriage, could possibly be gaining this kind of steam in light of the President’s campaign rhetoric. In the end, we decide it has a lot to do with the collective level of shame in the halls of the District of Columbia.

In these days approaching Saint Patrick’s Day, McDonalds brings forth its crown jewel – The Shamrock Shake.

The wondrous texture of this frozen & blended creation is discussed by Brink Brickly and myself as well as the strategies whereby one may consume the beverage. Also – is it a beverage? Where does it stand on the liquid – solid continuum?

This is the guy that the Romney campaign was simply never able to get across to the whole country – someone with character, a sense of humor, and humility. Less than two years ago, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker was embroiled in a hard fought recall election just to keep his job. Beset by powerful unions and outside progressive advocacy groups, it looked like the bold Gov might have his proverbial GOOSE cooked.

But he won that contest, and has continued applying reasonable free market wizardry to the ills that face his state. For his good work, just days ago he was able to announce a nearly 1 billion dollar budget surplus.

As this week’s Super Bowl became the most watched tv event in the history of the American eyeball, one cannot deny the supremacy of the NFL in our sporting life. Yet I yearn for the days of yore & a simpler time of wooden sticks flailing at balls hurled through the air… of Abner Doubleday inventing a sport for Americans to play (which apparently never happened… thanks a lot Ken Burns…).

So I decided to bring alongside my pal Brink Brickly, a die hard football fanatic, and attempt to convince him that America in 2014 needs more baseball.
