The film runs around 90 minutes and is revered as one of the first slasher films

It had a production budget of $400,000 and earned about 5 million domestically

The film is based on the the “Phantom Killer” crimes that happened in 1946

The Phantom attacked 8 people in the town of Texarkana, Texas

The killer was never identified or apprehended

In 1978 one of family member of the victims filed a lawsuit over the depiction of his sister in the film

The film's tagline claims that the the man who killed five people "still lurks the streets of Texarkana, Ark." causing officials of that neighboring city to threaten Pierce over the ads in 1977; however, it remained on the posters.
