Today, the Saskatchewan Teachers Federation is announcing the results of its vote deciding whether teachers will go on strike or employ sanctions in an effort to put pressure on the provincial government for better working conditions. Saskatoon employment lawyer, Steven Seiferling, joins Gormley to discuss how the vote works, why unions use these votes to decide on action, how sanctions might be implemented and what opportunities are available to school boards and the government should sanctions or a strike take effect.

Bill C-234, An Act to Amend the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act, remains before the Canadian senate. The act was created to help alleviate substantial concerns about carbon pricing for farmers by easing some finanical burden. Earlier this week, MP John Barlow joined Gormley. Now, Senator Brent Cotter provides Gormley with a different perspective on the bill.

Saskatchewan’s Fort Battleford is facing struggles with reconciliation, a shrinking volunteer base and staffing problems. Park attendance at the National historic site is also reportedly on the decline. Journalist Miguel Fenrich joins Gormley to share what he’s uncovered about the issues facing the park, the movement growing in the Battlefords to save it and what that could mean for other national parks in Canada.

After 650 CKOM and 980 CJME reported on Wednesday that a Regina woman has been waiting almost half a year to find out if she has cancer. The Saskatchewan Health Authority said in a statement that the backlogs still stem from the COVID-19 pandemic. Gormley sits down with health minister Everett Hindley to ask why people are waiting so long to learn about such a deadly disease and to check in about Wednesday’s start to the fall session of the Saskatchewan Legislature.

A new approach to making inexpensive batteries that hold a big charge and can recharge quickly could mean big improvements for the cells used in electric vehicles, power tools, phones and more. Researcher Jeremy Dawkins from McGill University joins Gormley to share more about his studies and what this can mean for powering our future.
