Trudeau says no further exemptions are coming for carbon tax when it comes to home heating oil or natural gas -- despite Saskatchewan’s Premier, Scott Moe, calling for the same exemption to be made to parts of Canada in addition to the Atlantic provinces. Saskatoon’s green cart program rolled out in the early months of 2023 and officially began in May. However, the plan to build a facility to process that compost waste has never been built, since the Rural Municipality of Corman Park decided to vote against having Green Prairie Environmental build on its existing landfill site in the area. The company has remained largely silent about the matter, until recently when the City of Saskatoon announced GPE was in default of their contract. Now, president Richard Weldon joins Gormley to explain the situation the company is facing as Saskatoon and Regina continue to battle with their respective green cart programs. Gormley

Researchers at Western University have partnered with the Canadian Light Source to further study cheaper and more stable fuel cells. These can be made by combining metals and seem to be a promising source of green energy. Ali Feizabadi joins Gormley to discuss this encouraging research and the impact it could have.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour movie has had a unique effect on movie theatres across the country, drawing thousands to the big screen to experience the very concert they weren’t able to see in person -- or, for a lucky few, to relive the experience they had attending the Eras Tour earlier this year. Swift herself has encouraged fans to dress up, trade friendship bracelets, take selfies and sing along in the theatres, treating the film like the concert itself. Gormley takes it to the listeners -- is this behaviour appropriate in this context? Or should etiquette in a movie theatre be unwavering to respect everyone’s viewing pleasure?

As a Saskatchewan mother and former union employee, Tonie Wells was frustrated to see unions rally earlier this month in front of the Saskatchewan Legislature over what is now Saskatchewan’s pronoun law. She joins Gormley to talk about union dues diversion as a means of discouraging unions from using employee union fees for these purposes.

In response to the Prime Minister's announcement last week, Leader of the federal Conservative Party, Pierre Poilievre, joins Gormley to review Trudeau’s carbon tax pause for Atlantic Canada.

Last week, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a pause on carbon tax for home oil heating for Atlantic Canadians. The announcement, however, has left many others behind and still struggling to make ends meet with high carbon tax costs. In response to Trudeau’s announcement for Atlantic Canada on Friday, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe is now calling for Trudeau to offer the same carbon tax pause on natural gas for western provinces and says Saskatchewan’s energy company will stop collecting the carbon tax if Ottawa does not offer a break. Moe joins Gormley to delve into that move, which has received unanimous support in the provincial legislature.
