The southeastern corner of Saskatchewan has been hammered by a spring snowstorm, driven by a Colorado Low moving north into the Prairies. While the area is not suffering the same widespread power outage the Maple Creek area saw last week, most highways are closed and travel is not recommended in the region. Kevin Weedmark is the editor and publisher of the World-Spectator in Moosomin, and he joins Gormley to tell us what's happening in the area this morning.

Saskatoon's Great Western Brewing Company is spending $40M on a multi-year process to modernize and expand its production. CEO Michael Brennan says the upgrade will let them brew more beer with less water, while keeping the historic 1927 building that houses the brewery intact. The 2022-23 provincial budget included a $24.9 increase in operational funding for school divisions, but several divisions say pressures from inflation and other causes mean even the increased funding falls well short of what they need just to maintain the status quo. Meanwhile, the Saskatchewan Teachers Federation has called for COVID measures including mandatory masks to be reinstated in schools. Minister Duncan joins Gormley to discuss education funding in our province, and what can be done to help the divisions facing a shortfall.

This Thursday will mark World Quantum Day, and scientists at the Centre for Quantum Topology and its Applications (quanTA) at the University of Saskatchewan are working to develop new innovations and applications in quantum science. Director Dr. Steven Rayan is aiming to make the Saskatchewan Prairie a centre for quantum innovation, and he joins Gormley to explain what the heck quantum technology and quantum computing are, share the work happening in Saskatchewan, and tell us why these innovations are so exciting for the future of science and technology.

In a TEDx Talk released this month, mental health advocate Al Kehler expands on the ideas he put forward in his 2020 book 'MENtal Health: It's Time To Talk.' Kehler says men avoid talking openly about mental health, but the fear of appearing weak is leading to a suicide rate that's three times higher among men than women. Kehler joins Gormley for a discussion on mental health, and why helping your struggling friends to feel seen and heard could be the start of a life-saving change.

The hospitality and tourism sectors are facing a worker shortage. Recent funding and programs like the Hard-To-Fill Skills Pilot, and the Re-Skill Saskatchewan Training Subsidy are helping to attract and train employees, but Jim Bence with Hospitality Saskatchewan says they are still very short on people who want to work.
