Canada's carbon tax is increasing to $50 a tonne today. The move is expected to add 2.2 cents to the cost of a litre of gasoline, for 11 cents total per litre, and SaskEnergy says the average residential consumer should expect an annual increase of about $54 (or 6%) on their 2022 natural gas bills. Premier Scott Moe and other provincial leaders called for the federal government to postpone the increase, and a recent study found 60% of households in Alberta, Ontario, Saskatchewan and Manitoba will pay more in carbon taxes than they get in rebates this year. Dan McTeague is a gas price analyst and president of Canadians for Affordable Energy, and McTeague joins John to share his thoughts on the increase.
