The communities of Beechy, Lucky Lake and Demaine were without power Sunday for more than 15 hours and it was -20C. It got as low as +5C in some homes. According to locals, this is nothing new. They have been dealing with long power-outages about once a month for the last year or so. The power was also out in the communities Christmas Day for four hours. People are worried about their homes and cabins at nearby Prairie Lake freezing, firefighters have been going around and checking on the elderly, and people are frustrated. According to posts on Twitter from people living in the area, SaskPower has blamed old infrastructure for the outages and admitted no one was available during the day Sunday to attend the site to fix. Some residents have had to pay $1750.00 to get a switch on their power pole to run a generator. Joel Cherry, is a Spokesperson for SaskPower and joins Gormley now to talk about the power situation in these communities and what SaskPower plans to do going forward.
