Main idea: Jesus uses signs to point to realities about Himself.
Purpose of a Sign: Point to something beyond itself
John 20:30–31 (ESV)
30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
“It is characteristic of them not so much that they arouse wonder and are hard to explain, nor even that they are demonstrations of the divine power, but rather that they point us to something beyond themselves. They show us God at work. They are meaningful.”
—Leon Morris

The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep…No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.” (Verses 9-18)

Eternal life begins not at death, but when our eyes are opened to who Jesus is and what he has done for us
Eternity is now
