Intro: Minutes 0 to 9:30 We'll have episodes out for the next two weeks and will be off on December 25 and January 1. We got a technical upgrade on the site that went into effect Sunday. Chandra saw Spencer, Cruella, Eyes of Tammy Faye and Passing and gives her reviews. I watched the series Elves on Netflix and also the movie Miss Granny.
Royals: Minutes 9:30 to Minute 26:00 While we were off Duchess Meghan did an interview with Ellen. She was just so charming and is a sweet person who is game for anything. The British media freaked out about that of course.
Two sort-of exposes about the royals came out, a two part documentary on the BBC called The Princes and The Press and a new book by Christopher Anderson called Brothers and Wives: Inside the Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry, and Meghan. Anderson has only been doing promotion in America and seems to be selling royal gossip to Americans who haven't been paying attention. He claims Prince Charles was the one who asked how dark H&M's children would be, but that it was misconstrued. Anderson's interview with The Daily Beast was enlightening and made it sound like everyone in the royal family was racist, although he tried to frame it like it was innocent. When Harry tried to confront his family about this they called him "oversensitive," which is a common abuser tactic.
The Princes and The Press is the two part documentary on BBC that caused the palace to absolutely freak out and refuse to work with the BBC. It's about how the palaces were briefing against Harry and Meghan during the time they decided to leave. The palaces freaked out over that before it was released despite the fact that the filmmaker approached the palaces and asked them if they wanted to have their representatives speak. That's how Meghan's lawyer appeared. We heard how mad all the palaces were about this, and before it came out representatives from the Queen, William and Charles issued a statement about it claiming it used "unnamed sources" when that wasn't the case.
Then we heard that Kate and William were going to pull their vague Christmas special from the BBC although they were already in talks with ITV about it. We heard denials from William's aides that he ever briefed to the press, which is ridiculous considering that they were briefing about not briefing.
After the second part of the special, Sussexit, aired, we heard that William got the BBC to make changes to it at the last minute. That makes sense considering that they didn't issue angry statements the next day. In the part that did air, a Times reporter insisted that William did not give his employee Jason Knauf permission to leak the stories about Meghan supposedly bullying staffers. I play a segment from Zoom where Karen and Ameerah talk about this.
The Mail on Sunday lost their appeal of Meghan's successful summary judgment suing them for publishing the letter to her father. Meghan's letter in response to the ruling in her favor was excellent. It looks like the Daily Mail will appeal this.
User Feedback: Minutes 26:00 to 28:45 Thanks to Aida, Paula, Laura and Loren for letting us know we're their top podcast on Spotify Unwrapped. Also Harena says she's binge listening to us, which is crazy. Jess texted asking us for our thoughts on Kate rolling her eyes when asked about Harry and Meghan.
Comments of the Week: Minutes 28:45 to Chandra's comment of the week is from Mary on the post about the trailer for And Just Like That, the Sex and The City series.
My comment of the week is from Lucia on the post about Zendaya and Tom Holland making their red carpet debut. The dress that Cate Blanchett wore to the 2000 Oscars reminds Chandra of Zendaya's gorgeous Cavalli. My bonus comment of the week is from Amy Too on the post about Kate visiting the Faberge Egg exhibit.
Thanks for listening bitches!
Introduction: to minute 3 We'll be off the next two weeks and back on December 4th. Chandra has been watching Dexter: New Blood and likes it.
Royals: Minutes 3:00 to 23:15 Duchess Meghan did a talk with the New York Times book summit with Mellody Hobson and conducted by Andrew Ross Sorkin. Meghan was so prepared with facts and clear points. I play a segment from that where Meghan talks about the Mail on Sunday appealing the ruling in her favor.
Jason Knauf gave Meghan's emails to the Daily Mail revealing that she wrote the letter to her father anticipating that he might leak it. She was just protecting herself and this was smart. He also released emails showing that she authorized him to give briefing points on her behalf to Omid Scobie and Caroline Durand for the biography Finding Freedom. This has nothing to do with the case, which is about the copyright of the letter to her father.
Prince Harry did the re:Wired summit. He talked about misinformation online and creating change in social media platforms. He also called the term "Megxit" misogynist. He referenced the Bot Sentinel report we discussed.
We talk about whether Twitter or Instagram is more toxic. Here's a link to the post I mentioned on Instagram which went mildly viral.
This week we got another report from Bot Sentinel that showed all the royal reporters who interacted with the hate accounts. Angela Levin was the top one, as we talked about two weeks ago, and Richard Eden, Richard Fitzwilliams and Richard Palmer were the other main ones.
Harry and Meghan attended the Salute to Freedom Gala where Harry gave out Intrepid Valor Awards. Meghan wore a red Carolina Hererra taffeta gown that we have mixed feelings about.
Duchess Kate did one event this week after her vacation and her events with William at the climate change summit. She went to a photography exhibit at the Imperial War Museum. Chandra wonders why we haven't seen Kate in so long.
I mention the ridiculous story about Biden allegedly farting in front of Camilla. According to reports Camilla has been talking about it to everyone. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about this. Chandra thinks that someone in Charles' office leaked that story, particularly after we heard that Camila was trying to have one of Charles' staffmembers fired. We sympathize with Biden because everyone gets gassy sometimes.
Antivaxxers: Minutes 23:15 to 31 Aaron Rodgers is still not suspended by the NFL or the Packers despite lying about being vaccinated and catching covid. He initially defended himself and claimed a woke mob was after him and that he did his research by talking to Joe Rogan and taking horse dewormer. Then a source told People he was being crucified and that we should respect his choice for his body as an athlete. He finally did an interview where he half apologized and took full responsibility but doubled down on everything he said before.
Matthew McConaughey also revealed that he's against mandating covid vaccines for children and seemed to suggest that his kids are not vaccinated. Then when he got called out for it he said he was misrepresented, that he's not against vaccines for children he's just against mandates for 5 to 11 year-olds and that his son Levi, 13, is vaccinated against covid. We hope he doesn't run for governor of Texas.
Emilio Estevez got fired by the Mighty Ducks Disney series for not getting vaccinated and then issued a wordy statement saying he's not antivax and that he had long covid. He never said he got vaccinated though! General Hospital's Ingo Rademacher is so much worse. He's one of those "medical freedom" nutjobs. He got fired after 25 years on that show for refusing to get vaccinated.
Chandra wonders what happened to Doutzen Kroes, the Dutch model who revealed she's antivax. I go on a tangent about being disappointed in Dakota Johnson for this interview.
Comments of the Week: Minutes 31:00 to end My comment of the week is from Mia4s on the post about Paul Rudd being named the Sexiest Man Alive. Chandra's comment of the week is from Tiffany on the post about Ivy Getty's excessive wedding.
Thanks for listening bitches!
Introduction: Minutes 0 to 1:30 We'll have another episode out next week and will be off two weeks for Thanksgiving. We'll be back on December 4th.
Politics: Minutes 1:30 to 6:30 We got a Republican governor this week in Virginia. Glenn Youngkin beat democrat Terry McAuliffe, who was our governor from 2014 to 2018. Chandra wasn't surprised he won as he reminded her of Bob McDonnell, our last Republican governor. We also got a Republican lieutenant governor and attorney general and The Republicans took control of the Virginia House of Delegates. Democrats still have a slim majority in our state senate. Racism seems to be main platform that the Republicans are running on now.
Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik: Minutes 6:30 to 11:30 This week we learned about an altercation at Gigi Hadid's home in Pennsylvania between her mother, Yolanda Hadid, and her boyfriend and baby's father, Zayn Malik, when Zayn was home with their one-year-old daughter, Khai. Gigi was in Paris for fashion week at the time, but when she heard about this she canceled appearances and flew back immediately. Reportedly, Gigi was on the phone with either Zayn or Yolanda when the situation happened.
We first heard about it after a source told TMZ that Zayn "struck" Yolanda. Zayn countered with a statement denying that he struck Yolanda and claiming that she entered their home when Gigi was away. After that we learned that he pled no contest to four criminal charges of harassment. He got almost a year's probation and must do an anger management course and a domestic violence program.
We wonder why people are blaming Yolanda for this when Zayn was the one who was charged. Zayn was dropped from his record label and sources said he's been smoking "strong" marijuana. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about this.
Royals: Minutes 11:30 to 24:00 Prince William and Duchess Kate were at the climate summit in Glasgow last weekend. It was reported ahead of time that they would do five events. Kate did two events with William, a scouts event and evening reception, and William did one more event after that. Chandra says the royal math adds up if you count each of their events separately.
Camila Tominey, who is typically very pro-Cambridge, wrote a piece in the Telegraph saying that the Cambridges need to give up flying private if they're serious about climate change. Plus Tominey pointed out that Kate left Monday night and that Will and Kate traveled separately. We wonder if Kate left the summit earlier than scheduled. We still don't where they went on vacation or if they went together. Plus they didn't get hype pieces afterwards like after the Bond premiere.
Prince Andrew filed a legal response to Virginia Giuffre's lawsuit in New York. His lawyers didn't turn it in until the day it was due. It smeared Giuffre and claimed she was in it for the money. Chandra explains that it took Giuffre over a decade to even get possession of the photo from the FBI where she was posing with Andrew. The trial is scheduled for September of next year and it's thought that Andrew's daughters Beatrice and Eugenie might sit for depositions. It would be a disaster for the monarchy if the trial gets this far. We think Andrew should settle.
Prince Harry has two events scheduled next week, the Intrepid Valor Awards in New York on Wednesday, November 10th and a Wired summit on online misinformation on Tuesday the 9th. Duchess Meghan is a guest speaker for the NY Times' DealBook summit which is November 9th and 10th. We're hoping that they'll both come to New York for that but we don't know yet!
We also got a story today that Duchess Meghan called some Republican senators to advocate for leaving the paid family leave section in the infrastructure bill. She was able to get the private numbers of Republican senators, including Shelley Capito from West Virginia and Susan Collins from Maine. New York Senator Kristen Gillibrand admitted giving Meghan the phone numbers and said she told some of the senators ahead of time to let them know that Meghan would be calling them.
Comments of the Week: Minutes 24:00 to 28:00 My comments of the week are from Katherine and Katie on the post about Aaron Rodgers catching covid after lying to the press that he was "immunized."
Chandra's comment of the week is from Chaine on the post about Brad Pitt being depressed because he keeps losing in court.
Thanks for listening bitches!
Introduction: Minutes 0 to 6:00 We'll have episodes out the next two weeks and will be off on November 20th and 27th for the Thanksgiving holiday in the US. I binged all of season 3 of You. Chandra has been rewatching Mad Men. You can listen below!
British Royals: Minutes 6:00 to 30:30 The software firm, Bot Sentinel, completed an investigation into the Twitter accounts targeting Duchess Meghan. They found a targeted online hate campaign run by about 83 different accounts who are coordinating with each other and are responsible for 70% of the negative content about Meghan. Buzzfeed's Ellie Hal interviewed Bot Sentinel's CEO, who said that "This level of complexity comes from people who know how to do this stuff, who are paid to do this stuff." Many of the Sussex Squad knew this but it's validating to see it studied and reported on like this.
Omid Scobie tweeted that at "a known writer" DMed with an anti-Sussex leader. Chandra follows many royal reporters on Twitter and has seen them interact with these troll accounts. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about this. We wonder who the author could be as there are several candidates.
For the past couple of weeks we have heard how Prince William and Kate are going to come to the US for a visit. This came after William's largely ignored Earthshot awards ceremony, after which we mostly heard about William and what he's done rather than the winners and their environmental work. William covered People Magazine last week, where he gave an exclusive interview. (We didn't think the Cambridges even acknowledged the Earthshot winner on their Instagram, but we were wrong. I needed to read to the bottom of this Instagram post to figure it out.) British outlets claim the Cambridges are planning to come to America and that this will "rock" the Sussexes.
Last week while we were off Meghan wrote an open letter advocating for paid parental leave in the US. It was so well put and true. She was trying to make sure that extended parental leave stayed in the infrastructure bill, which originally allowed for up to 12 weeks paid parental leave but that's since been cut to 4 weeks and it might be cut entirely due to Manchin not conceding. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about this.
We just got a really lovely video of Meghan reading her children's book, The Bench, for the publisher's YouTube channel called Brightly Storytime. She was so genuinely happy and proud of it, it was awesome to see. Meghan is in full teacher mode.
On Tuesday, November 19, the Queen canceled her planned two day trip to northern Ireland. The public was told two days later that the Queen had been hospitalized overnight.
We got paparazzi-type photos of the Cambridges with their kids at the airport. The photos were taken on Thursday and were not released until Friday night. Chandra doesn't think those photos were set up by the Cambridges. Those photos were moved to another URL by the Daily Mail and the comments were turned off. We heard excuses that they were so busy the last few weeks and needed to spend time with their children. We also heard that they were supposedly coming back from vacation when those photos were published, but that didn't add up with their public schedule. We haven't heard anything about the Cambridges in a while.
Japanese Royals: Minutes 30:30 to 33:45 Princess Mako of Japan married her college sweetheart, a commoner named Kei Komuro, in a private civil ceremony this week. They're both 30. Mako gave up her royal title to marry Kei, and she's giving up her $1 million dowry as well. Her parents do not approve of Kei. Apparently 80% of Japanese people dislike Kei and he's been smeared in the press. They're moving to a one bedroom apartment in New York where he's going to work as a lawyer. They seem really devoted to each other and ready to start their new life together.
Comments of The Week: Minutes 33:45 to end My comment of the week is from Nic on the post about Roger Waters' marriage. Chandra's comment of the week is from Princess Peach on the post about William being mad at The Crown for dramatizing his mom's interview.
Thanks for listening bitches!
Introduction: Minutes 0 to 4:30 We will be off next week and will be back on October 30th. We've had a lot of technical problems with the site and think it's due to Mercury retrograde. Chandra and I got haircuts. We both like our long hair and just got trims.
Royals: Minutes 4:30 to 20:00 There's been a lot of drama over whether the Sussexes will christen Lilibet Diana in the UK. We heard a couple of weeks ago that Prince William blocked William and Meghan's plans to christen Lilibet Diana in Windsor. Chandra thinks Harry wanted to introduce Lili to the Queen and christen her in Windsor. There were so many reports about Lili's christening that The Sussexes issued a simple statement. They say the plans for Lili's christening are still being finalized and any other reporting was "mere speculation."
While the press was freaking out about Lili's christening plans, Harry and Meghan announced a partnership with an investing firm called Ethic. It's a natural fit for the Sussexes and is sure to be wildly successful. We just heard that BetterUp's valuation more than doubled since Prince Harry joined so Ethic is about to take off. The press response was weak. They called Ethic a hippie firm and complained that they had holdings in Google, Facebook and Twitter even though Harry and Meghan have talked about the perils of social media and the Internet. These arguments make no sense.
There was also an attempt by sources close to William to show that he wants to shut out his uncle Andrew, but his reasoning for that is questionable. William is said to see Andrew as a "threat" to the royal family and a "risk" but not because he's a rapist, but because he's "ungracious and ungrateful" for the advantages he gets as a royal. It's possible William is also making a point about Harry.
I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about the royals. We wonder whether Meghan would want to share photos of her children if things were different.
Angelina Jolie: Minutes 20:00 to 28 Angelina Jolie has been seeing The Weeknd since at least July, when they were spotted on a dinner date. They were also at a private concert in LA, have been seen out together a few times since and were even together at his house. It's thought to be romantic and that he's trying to win her over.
Angelina has also been seen out with her first husband, Jonny Lee Miller. In June she visited Jonny's New York City apartment a few times, with the cover story being that she brought Pax and then Knox with her to visit Jonny's son, Buster. This week Angelina and Jonny were photographed out at dinner in Beverly Hills. We're praying to the gossip gods that this happens. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about this.
Comments of the Week: Minutes 28:00 to end Chandra's comment of the week is from Eurydice on the post about the "Generation Earthshot" event. My comments of the week are from Miss Margo and rawiya on the post about Blac Chyna's rant at the airport in Miami telling people to get vaccinated.
Thanks for listening bitches!
Introduction: Minutes 0 to 5 We'll have another episode out on October 16th and will be off the 23rd. Thank you to all our new and old subscribers! I watched Squid Game and loved it. Chandra has been watching Billions, which just ended season five.
Royals: Minutes 5:00 to 20:30 It felt kind of flat in royals news this week since Harry and Meghan's tour, but we got a lot of stories nitpicking them as usual. The Daily Mail speculated that Meghan must be doing a beauty line since Harry and Meghan took a private plane to New York owned by the infomercial company Guthy-Renker. Chandra assumed that they just rented the plane but it turns out that Harry and Meghan know the head of the company, Bill Guthy, and that they possibly did the Oprah interview on his estate. If Meghan started a beauty line we would definitely buy her stuff. There's also speculation that they could move to New York. I play a segment from Zoom where Karen, Courtney and Lisa talk about this, including Dan Wootton's column claiming Harry needs to resign from Netflix due to the Diana musical.
The Cambridges likely asked The Sun to delete the photo of them out at lunch that came out on the Sunday after the Sussexes NY Tour. The Sun seemed to have their permission to post it along with a sugary writeup but the photos were deleted with no fanfare a couple of days later. The story remained available at The Sun. Chandra thinks the Cambridges hated being called out for it and that's why they wanted the photos taken down. There have been all these weird embiggening pieces about the Cambridges claiming that they're down to earth and that they still hang out with their school friends.
Battle of Brothers author, Robert Lacey, claimed that William had "broken the cycle" of marital problems in the royal family by sticking with Kate essentially. This reminds me of Dan Wootton's quote that Kate and William would stay together as long "as they're both alive." Lacey made it sound like the Cambridges are just staying together for the kids.
Kate went to University College London's Centre for Longitudinal Studies, which has done research on child development for decades. Kate has the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood which she announced in mid June, but we didn't hear much about it afterwards. After her visit to University College London, there was a piece in People Magazine that made it sound like Kate was responsible for the research from the university. Everything is centered around Kate instead of the research and children.
Katie Couric: Minutes 20:30 to 27:15 We've heard excerpts from Katie Couric's upcoming memoir, Going There, and she sounds like a terrible person. In the first excerpt we heard that Katie refused to mentor other women because she saw them as competition. She also said that Ashleigh Banfield was the next big thing and that she didn't mentor her on purpose. Ashleigh, who works at News Nation now, responded to that and said she was hurt by it. She later realized that Katie likely sabotaged her career. In other excerpts Katie is sympathetic to Matt Lauer. She also made her nanny out to be awful and claimed the nanny was trying to ruin her marriage to Jay Monahan, who passed away in 1998. In response the nanny talked to The Daily Mail and detailed what a piece of work Katie was.
Comments: Minutes 27:15 to end Chandra's comment of the week is by Amy Bee on the post about how Kate was "supporting research."
My comment of the week is from Bookie on the post where Meghan Trainor said she had toilets installed side by side so she could pee next to her husband.
Thanks for listening bitches!
Introduction: Minutes 0 to 3:30 We've been off for two weeks due to the Met Gala and the Emmys. We'll have two more episodes after this one and then are taking October 23rd off. There have been so many events lately because they got put off. Our job has been really busy and we've felt burnt out.
Royals: Minutes 3:30 to 29 Harry and Meghan did a three day tour of New York City last weekend! During and after Harry and Meghan's tour we saw the Keens more in a week than we have in months. It was so ridiculous and obvious. On Thursday Harry and Meghan did an appearance at One World Trade Center with Mayor De Blasio and Governor Hochul. They also had a roundtable discussion at the World Health Organization. On Friday they visited a public school in Harlem and ate at a popular restaurant there, Melba's, which they donated to. On Sunday the Sussexes appeared at the Global Citizen Festival to talk vaccine equity. Friday William met with the President of the Football Association and Kate had an event with British tennis stars including Emma Raducanu. Chandra says it seems like the Cambridges' events were thrown together at the last minute but that seems to be typical for them.
On Sunday the Cambridges had a "pub lunch" with their children that happened to be captured by a photographer and described in cloying detail by The Sun. It definitely seemed to be set up ahead of time.
On Tuesday USA Today published William's op-ed about climate change that he co-authorized with Michael Bloomberg. We also heard that William is doing a five part Discovery streaming series about his Earthshot prize initiative.
Tuesday night the Cambridges went to the No Time to Die Premiere dressed to the nines along with Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla. Then Wednesday they went to Northern Ireland for a surprise visit. It seemed put together at the last minute to one-up the Sussexes. When they visited a university with a petting zoo for students' mental health they didn't mention their mental health organization, Heads Together.
Mike Tindall, the husband of William and Harry's cousin, Zara Philipps, made a "joke" about the royal family wanting to punch Harry. He said that he and his friends tried to throw punches at Harry in 2003 and that the royal protection officers stopped them. Harry would have been 19 while Mike and his buddies were around 25. Chandra thinks that Mike, Zara and Harry had a falling out over Meghan.
Will and Kate are covering People Magazine this week with the title "The Making of a Modern King," even though Charles will be king next. Battle of the Brothers author Robert Lacey wrote part of the article and he's obviously being fed information by William. Lacey said that "a new leader – William not Charles – is paving the way forward." People wonder whether Charles will stand up to William. Chandra thinks Charles won't give William the Prince of Wales title once The Queen passes.
As usual, the British press criticized Harry and Meghan but gave William and Kate a pass for doing similar things. For instance Meghan's makeup was nitpicked and her eyebrows were called "Hollywood" while Kate's makeup at the 007 premiere was praised and presented more like a tutorial. Meghan was also concern trolled for wearing a coat in warm weather in NY.
I didn't like Kate's Jenny Packham gown but Chandra did. We both thought her hair looked heavy and lopsided, but her makeup looked good. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about this.
There's speculation whether Meghan and Harry will come back to the UK for the Queen's Jubilee next year or if they'll come for Christmas. Chandra thinks that Harry has told the Queen he wants to bring his children to visit her and that the people around the Queen are freaking out about this. I play a segment from Zoom where Monique, Ameerah, Zakia, Karen and April talk about this. Americans love Harry and Meghan and the British press hates this.
Comments of the Week: Minutes 29 to 34:45 Chandra's comment of the week is from JT on the post about how William is paving the way for the monarchy. My comments of the week are from Jezebeelzebub and Same on the post about Mila Kunis doubling down on not bathing her kids.
I mention a tweet Chandra made about how there's overlap between the Kate stans and the antivaxxers.
Thanks for listening bitches!
Introduction: Minutes 0 to 4:30 We will be taking two weeks off for the Met Gala and the Emmys and will be back on October 2nd. We'll be doing our three weeks on one week off schedule for October and will be taking two weeks off both in November and December around the holidays. We'll be clearer about that the closer we get to those dates. Chandra has been covering the Venice Film Festival fashion. Kristen Stewart's 70s Chanel nightie was particularly bad.
Angelina Jolie: Minutes 4:30 to 13:30 Angelina Jolie did a candid interview with The Guardian Weekend Magazine to promote her new book Know Your Rights and Claim Them: A Guide for Youth. Angelina spilled a little bit, but Chandra thinks she's still under a legal gag order due to her 2018 custody agreement. It seems like Angelina is fed up with Brad. In that interview she said she was afraid for her children's safety and that she had an assault experience with Harvey Weinstein that she told Brad about. Brad worked with Weinstein twice after Angelina told him about that, which Angelina said hurt her. Brad knew about Gwyneth Paltrow being sexually harassed by Weinstein, because Gwyneth said she told him about it. Both Brad and Harvey Weinstein issued statements to TMZ denying Angelina's account, with Weinstein's being particularly despicable and Brad's just denying that he worked with Weinstein on Inglourious Basterds.
In 2017, The Daily Beast ran a story about Brad Pitt's business dealings with Harvey Weinstein. The journalist said that Brad's people tried to shut that story down. Unlike other men who worked with Weinstein, like George Clooney, Kevin Smith, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, Brad Pitt has never addressed his association with him. I play a segment from Zoom where Karen and Ameerah talk about this. We wonder whether Brad was emotionally abusive to Angelina and the kids, especially considering how long he's dragged out the divorce case.
Monica Lewinsky: Minutes 13:30 to 22 Monica Lewinsky has been promoting American Crime Story: Impeachment, for which she's a producer. Beanie Feldstein is playing Monica, but Monica has been doing more press. Monica's interviews sound like revisionist history given what we know about her case. We wonder why she hasn't seemed to move on from this. We lived through this part of history and listened to her tapes with Linda Tripp and read the Starr Report. Monica was an adult when this happened and admitted pursuing Clinton. It was an abuse of power on his part and Monica was a victim of the press and of the Republicans. We wonder why she's not taking responsibility for her part though. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about this.
John Mulaney: Minutes 22 to 31 We explain why we don't use Mulaney's girlfriend's name in the titles to our stories. You can hear more about that in episode 15 or read about it in the story we talked about which Chandra covered Friday. I go off on people commenting without reading even one line of the story. Mulaney's girlfriend is pregnant, and he went on Seth Meyers to talk about that. He opened with the alleged timeline of their relationship, which he claimed happened right after he got out of rehab for the second time in February. He said he split from his wife in the fall. However sources close to his estranged wife, Anne-Marie Tendler, have denied his timeline and say that he didn't tell her he wanted a divorce until February. I play a segment from Zoom were we talk about this.
Comments of the Week: Minutes 31 to end My comment of the week is from TheOriginalMia on the post from People Royals claiming that Kate and William's kids have "all the right ingredients." Here's a link to Tanisha's tweet about that.
Chandra's comment of the week is from Becks1 on the post about the Royal Foundation wanting to focus on diversity.
Thanks for listening bitches!
Introduction: Minutes 0 to 7:30 We'll have an episode out next week and then we'll be off for two weeks until October 3. It will be the holidays before we know it. We had a tornado warning in my area but have not had the flooding that other places have experienced. Chandra has been watching the US Open, where extreme weather is affecting the matches. Chandra mentions the story about Stefanos Tsitsipas taking long bathroom breaks which threw off his match partner, Andy Murray.
Royals: Minutes 7:30 to 19 Finding Freedom has come out in paperback with a new epilogue. One of the revelations was that two of the staffers who allegedly complained that Meghan bullied them rescinded their stories in 2018. This came out back when the palace was pushing their "Meghan was a bully" storyline, but it received little attention at the time. The details of Meghan's alleged bullying have always been so vague.
Vanity Fair reported this week that Will and Kate plan to move to Windsor castle in the country and will keep their apartment in Kensington Palace for when they're in London. It really sounds like they've been living separate lives as we've been talking about. We heard in June that they was looking for homes in Bucklebury closer to Kate's parents, we talked about that in episode #95. We've also heard that William wants to take over Prince Andrew's residence, royal lodge. Chandra points out that we've know that Kate and William were living separately for some time. Katie Nicholl's story claimed the Cambridges felt "very overlooked" in London, which is curious and hints at deeper problems within the royal family.
In March Piers Morgan either quit or got fired from Good Morning Britain on ITV. He stormed off set after being mildly questioned by weatherman Alex Beresford about his obsession with Duchess Meghan. We talked about this on episode #85. Morgan has accused Meghan of lying when she talks about her own mental health and the racism she experienced. He's been obsessed with her since 2016. Over 57,000 people complained to British media watchdog organization, Ofcom, about Piers. Duchess Meghan also put in a call to the president of ITV to complain specifically about Piers' comments about suicide. We heard this week that Piers was cleared by Ofcom due to free speech reasons. He has been begging ITV to give him his job back, and since he's an editor of the Daily Mail they're of course taking his side. ITV has stated through a source that they're not giving Piers his job back. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about the royals.
SCOTUS non-decision on Texas abortion ban: Minutes 19 to 25 The Supreme Court failed to block a law passed in Texas which bans abortion at 6 weeks, before most women realize they're pregnant. The law is bizarre and also allows citizens to sue anyone suspected of helping a woman obtain an abortion, including drivers who bring them to the appointment. A TikToker created a script to submit fake reports to this system in an attempt to make their data unusable. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about this.
Comments of the Week: Minutes 25 to end My comments of the week are from Sam The Pink and Susie Whit on the post about the FDA warning people not to take Ivermectin.
Chandra's comment of the week is from Who Are These People on the post about Mike Richards getting fired from Jeopardy.
Thanks for listening bitches!
Introduction: Minutes 0 to 1:45 We're excited for our 100th episode! We've been on since January 15, 2019 and have put out podcasts 74% of the time. We're proud!
Royals: Minutes 1:45 to 18:15 Prince Andrew is at Balmoral. The Queen's lawyers are trying to avoid negative coverage of Andrew by banning outlets from publishing photos. They sent out letters "warning the publications against publishing pictures of the royal family or their guests at Balmoral the same day that Andrew arrived there." This story validates the Sussexes' claims that the royals could have protected them from the press if they wanted. Chandra thinks the Queen's staff are trying to protect her. We wonder what the Queen knows. Chandra remembers the story about how the Queen took Andrew's word that his BBC interview went well.
This week the Sussexes issued statements on their Archewell site. They talked about the Afghanistan withdrawal, the crisis in Haiti and the ongoing pandemic. Many of the royal reporters latched onto the part of their statement that said they were speechless. It was clear what they meant in context, but of course they're being nitpicked. They included links to the charities they're working with which are addressing these issues. You can tell that Harry, a veteran of Afghanistan, has been speaking to his veteran friends. He also issued a statement about Afghanistan through the Invictus Games. Angela Levin accused the Sussexes of accepting money on behalf of Archewell when in fact they told people to donate directly to the charities. Kate and William's charity, the Royal Foundation, is the one that accepts donations and then parcels it out to charities. It's unclear how effective this is considering that at least two of their patronages have closed for lack of funds.
Harry and Meghan are also covering People Magazine, which has a new interview with Finding Freedom author Omid Scobie. He's promoting the paperback release of FF on August 31s, which has a new epilogue. Omid said the Sussexes are entering an "era of visibility" and that they're in a healthier place and thriving. We can see that too. They previously announced that they're taking five months paternity and maternity leave. They should be off until November, but they've already done so much. Chandra thinks they'll be making announcements and launching things in the fall. Chandra remembers when Kim Kardashian was pregnant and launching projects.
In the epilogue to Finding Freedom, there's a section quoting a source about how Harry and Meghan felt about the royal response to the Oprah interview. It references the Queen's "recollections may vary" statement and says that the royal family isn't taking accountability. The British reporters are claiming that Harry and Meghan "attacked" the Queen and are "reigniting a rift." The Daily Beast is reporting that lawyers for the Sussexes "have written to at least one major British newspaper saying that the claims are false and inaccurate." Scobie made it clear that those quotes were from a source and were not directly attributed to Harry and Meghan. The British press seems to be trying to drive a wedge between Scobie and The Sussexes. Chandra mentions that the Sussexes are highlighting how little the royals are doing. They haven't issued a simple statement about the crisis in Haiti.
The Crown: Minutes 18:15 to 25:30 We got the first photos from season five of The Crown featuring Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, Dominic West as Prince Charles and Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth. Also Jonathan Pryce is playing Prince Philip, Natascha McElhone is Penny Knatchbull, and Jonny Lee Miller is John Major.
The Crown is also going to feature Prince Philip's relationship with his mistress, Penny Knatchbull, who was back in the press recently because she was at his funeral. Penny is 32 years younger than Prince Philip, she lived with him at Wood Farm and they had a relationship for decades. Penny was one of many mistresses and would often accompany Prince Philip and The Queen to events. I ask why Philip hated Fergie and Chandra says Fergie was tacky and indiscreet. I play a segment from Zoom where Susan, Sara, Karen, Lisa and Amber talk about the casting. We don't think Dominic West looks anything like Charles. Chandra found Gillian Anderson hit or miss at playing Thatcher last season but says her body work was excellent.
Comments of the Week: Minutes 25:30 to end My comment of the week is from Duchess L on the story about Terry Crews saying you don't need to shower if you don't sweat. Chandra's comment of the week is from Sandy on tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas saying he wouldn't get vaccinated until it was mandatory.
Thanks for listening bitches!
