When we first launched Got This in Black? We stuck it to big brands, like Target and Moschino, for vague, unsubstantial and sometimes nonexistent commitments to Black consumers. Have they made some progress, maybe. But what we really want to get into this episode is the concept of intentionality and care in big brand and Black creative relationships.
The bottom line: Team work makes the dream work. But how that dream is curated and executed is another thing. Big brands need dope Black creatives to infuse the sauce into the company that allows them to attract and maintain their customers. But how do you make sure you are properly paid and what rate should you be looking for? We talk about all that and more in our discussion with visual artist, Adrienne Gaither.

Urbanwear was born in the streets of Black neighborhoods. There is a certain sauce that melanated people add when coordinating a fit. What do you get when you co-opt the culture, add a markup and repackage it for sale? Streetwear. In today’s episode we discuss the impact, importance and influence of Black women in Streetwear with special guest and sneaker aficionado, T. We talk about the legacy in streetwear created by the likes of Misa Hylton and June Ambrose, and the future driven by emerging leaders like Martine Rose. For such a significant effect on the culture of Streetwear, the recognition is lacking. Let’s talk about it.
