Part 1: Law of the Day (Matthew 22:15-22) - “Then the Pharisees went and plotted how to entangle him in his words. And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God truthfully, and you do not care about anyone's opinion, for you are not swayed by appearances. Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?....”

Part 2: Today I connect the topic of idolatry with that of vaccine and mask mandates. I consider some of the common phrases or mottos that we see publicly displayed. I also look at the speech given by Governor Kathy Hochul of New York a few months ago. Are these speeches just examples of flamboyant language, or is something deeper taking place? In what ways has the vaccine become idolatrous? What should our response be?

Part 2: Today I continue with the series on idolatry and civil disobedience. In this episode, I consider the various phases, or steps, of civil disobedience. This includes prayer/petition, escape, and self-defense. I also look at what it means for lesser magistrates to resist higher magistrates. When a whole community of people cannot escape, how do they engage in civil disobedience?

Part 2: Today I continue with the series on idolatry and civil disobedience. In this episode, I look at the persecution of Christians in the Roman Empire. I consider why the Christians were persecuted, how it was implemented, and how they responded. Lastly, I discuss the martyrdom of Cyprian, a Christian leader from North Africa.

Part 1: Law of the Day (Deuteronomy 12:29-32) - “When the LORD your God cuts off before you the nations whom you go in to dispossess, and you dispossess them and dwell in their land, take care that you be not ensnared to follow them, after they have been destroyed before you, and that you do not inquire about their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods?—that I also may do the same.’ You shall not worship the LORD your God in that way, for every abominable thing that the LORD hates they have done for their gods, for they even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods. Everything that I command you, you shall be careful to do. You shall not add to it or take from it.”

Part 2: Today I continue with the series on idolatry and civil disobedience. In this episode, I look at how to detect idols within a culture. This includes either things that are inherently wicked or good things that have become idols. I also look at how Christians have responded to cultural idols in Scripture as well as historically. Finally, I consider how Christians were perceived in the Roman Empire and how they reacted to the pagan idolatry within it.

Part 2: Today I begin another series on the topic of idolatry and civil disobedience. In this first episode, I define idolatry and discuss what it looks like. Passages like Romans 1 and Isaiah 44 are central to understanding the nature of idolatry. I also look at how idolatry leads to death and can never result in life.

Part 2: Today I continue with the topic of climate change and consider several passages from the Old Testament prophets. I also look at how secularism views climate change and how this also is a religious system. Both secularism and Christianity have a concept of sin, atonement, and good works. The question is whether we will serve God or idols.

Part 1: Law of the Day (Deuteronomy 22:6-7): “If you come across a bird’s nest in any tree or on the ground, with young ones or eggs and the mother sitting on the young or on the eggs, you shall not take the mother with the young. Part 2: Today I introduce the topic of climate change and begin to look at what the Bible says, if anything, about it. I also look at judgment and the different types of judgment that we see in Scripture. The secular prophets view climate change as a form of judgment against humans. In this series I show where they are correct and where they are wrong.
