Every year on November 14, World Diabetes Day serves as a global platform to raise awareness about diabetes. This year, the theme "Diabetes and Well-being" highlights the significance of ensuring that individuals managing diabetes can have healthy and fulfilling lives, with equal opportunities for happiness and well-being.
The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs is committed to emphasizing that living with diabetes should not hinder anyone from living life to the fullest. Through proper education, adoption of healthy lifestyle practices, regular monitoring, and adherence to appropriate medication, diabetes can be effectively managed.
A delegation from the World Bank is currently on island undertaking a week-long Implementation Support Mission for the Health Systems Strengthening Project (HSSP) and the OECS Regional Health Project which is being managed by the Project Implementation Unit within the Ministry of Health. The mission which is taking place from November 11 – 15 will involve setting a clear and detailed plan for meeting the project timelines and milestones, in addition to resolving any challenges that can affect the accelerated implementation of the projects. The mission kicked off by way of a meeting with the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health Jenny Daniel, where discussions focused on the overall support to be provided to the Project Implementation Unit to accelerate prioritized activities.

Saint Lucia is currently undertaking consultations to develop more ambitious climate action commitments for the next five years. The National Climate Change Committee has reconvened as part of the process to review the country’s Updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0).
An NDC is a country’s climate pledge under the Paris Agreement to reduce carbon emissions and adapt to climate change impacts. In its most recent NDC, Saint Lucia committed to reducing emissions from energy and transport sectors by 7%, below 2010 emissions by 2030.

The Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs is providing an update on the much-anticipated reopening of the La Ressource Wellness Centre in Dennery, which is now nearing completion. Nine years after a devastating fire severely damaged the facility and halted health services, the wellness center is set to resume operations, restoring a vital healthcare resource to the community.
Progress continues within the Unleashing the Blue Economy of the Caribbean (UBEC) Project, with increasing efforts focused on improving agricultural practices in the livestock sector, as farmers benefit from enhanced water supply measures.
