Residents of Dennery North have received assistance to ease the squeeze of preparation for the 2024/2025 academic year.
The Vieux Fort Wellness Centre has placed a special focus on improving breastfeeding support, during Saint Lucia’s month-long observance of World Breastfeeding Week.
A series of presentations were held on Aug. 14, that aimed to educate mothers, staff, and the public on the critical benefits of breastfeeding. The event featured presentations on key topics such as nutrition during and after pregnancy, testimonies about the importance of breastfeeding, breast care, proper milk expression and storage techniques, and the correct latching techniques.

The Unicomer Group has successfully launched its OECS Wellness Program, a significant initiative aimed at fostering healthier communities across the region. The programme introduced over a two day period was held at the Courts Megastore in Marisule. The success of the event speaks to the strong partnership between Unicomer Group and the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs.
Shirlan Edward, Family Life Educator in the Ministry of Health, emphasized the importance of such collaborations, noting, “It is crucial that we promote wellness initiatives like this to ensure that the working class has access to our full range of services. We encourage other organizations to reach out to the Ministry to support wellness within their workplaces.”

The Gros Islet Reunion 2024 has taken a unique turn this year by incorporating a comprehensive Health Fair, highlighting the vital role of health and wellness in strengthening community ties and fostering healthier communities. Organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs, the event drew a significant number of residents from Gros Islet and the neighboring communities, making it a cornerstone of this year’s reunion festivities.
Candy Sextius, Family Life Educator at the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs, shared her enthusiasm about the initiative, "The Gros Islet reunion committee reached out with a vibrant plan to reunite folks from the diaspora through a month-long series of activities. Our participation in this event provided a unique opportunity to showcase the extensive services offered by the Ministry."

The Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs of Saint Lucia is pleased to announce key advancements in pandemic management following the participation of a high-level delegation at the Caribbean Regional Stakeholder Consultation Workshop on the CARPHA Pandemic Fund Project. Held in Trinidad and Tobago from August 5 to 7, 2024, the workshop focused on “Reducing the Public Health Impact of Pandemics in the Caribbean through Prevention, Preparedness, and Response.”
Saint Lucia’s delegation, led by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sharon Belmar-George, Laboratory Director Dr. Wayne Felicien, and Medical Surveillance Officer Dr. Dana Gomez, actively engaged with regional counterparts to explore strategies for enhancing pandemic preparedness and response across the Caribbean.
