NEW YEAR'S WEEKEND COVID-19 PROTOCOLS: Cabinet has decided to keep the current protocols in place until January 7, 2022. This includes a 1 a.m. confinement time on the morning of January 1, 2022.
However, Cabinet has decided on the following containment measures:
1. A person shall not host or attend a mass crowd event nor a competitive or high contact sporting activity, including indoor and outdoor training and local competitions.
2. A person can host or attend a social event or recreational activity that does not exceed 35 persons of his or her immediate family at his or her residence.
3. In accordance with the Criminal Code no loud music will be permitted at a social event or recreational activity and anyone who breaks this law shall be prosecuted under the Criminal Code.
4. A faith-based organization may hold a special religious ceremony including baptisms, weddings, and funerals only if there are no more than 100 people in attendance and providing also that physical distancing guidelines are strictly observed.
5. Beach picnics, river parties will not be allowed.
The Commissioner of Police has assured the Cabinet that his Police Officers will be out in sufficient numbers to ensure strict compliance with the measures that I have just outlined.
The Ministry of Health alerts all sectors on the urgent strengthening of all public health measures to reduce the possible impact over the next few weeks.
We remind you of the following important measures:
- Avoid large meetings, crowded activities and social gatherings
- Ensure the protocols are maintained at all work places and sectors, on minibuses and commercial and tourism sector, gyms, hardware stores, supermarkets and recreational activities
- Ensure safe physical distancing for face to face meetings and activities
- Use of face mask when in public places
- Ensure regular cleaning of surfaces and sanitation of all business establishments and environments
- Ensure you remain in quarantine or isolation if you were a direct contact of a case or a member of your household is positive
- Limit social activities at work
- If you develop respiratory symptoms which includes cough, sore throat, runny nose, headache, fatigue, loss of sense of smell and taste and diarrhea and vomiting, seek medical care and avoid contact with others.
- Encourage vaccination of employees.
The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs will continue to strengthen the health system in order to manage this fifth wave of COVID-19 in country.
High social interactions, in the absence of population immunity, especially during this festive season, provides the condition to fuel the transmission of COVID-19.
COVID-19 vaccines provide the best protection by reducing the risk of transmission, symptomatic disease, severe illness, hospitalization and death. The National vaccination program offers the AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines – all of which are very effective at keeping you out of hospital.
