Sometimes you see the sign in a restaurant, "No shoes…No service." This is done under public health and safety ordinances. If you don't wear shoes, the restaurant cannot give you service. We could make the same phrase apply to the armor of God--"No shoes…No service." The service in this case refers to our witness, our Christian service. If we do not have "the shoes of the Gospel" firmly on our feet, we cannot render effective Christian service.

We must be "true" and "sincere" in our hearts as true genuine born again believers with no hypocrisy or insincerity. We cannot wear the "belt of truth" without being "true Christians." We accept and affirm from deep in the soul the full truth of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Bible without doubt, apology, hesitation or reserve.

Now we are ready to study the equipment God has given and to put on the armor of God. The first piece of the armor of God which the Spirit mentions is "the belt of truth." The Roman soldier had to ensure the belt of truth was firmly and finally in place. The breastplate was attached to the belt, so if this first piece is not correctly secured, the battle will be lost. Be sure you are saved, that your heart is sincere before the Lord, and that His glory is your heart's desire. Then, stand firm!
